  • Fine weather here today, but I don't have time to get over the allotment this afternoon. So I confined myself to lunchtime back garden and greenhouse pottering. Checked and watered seedlings - psb and basil have now germinated, hurrah. Repotted parsley seedlings from disintegrating loo roll tubes into small pots although I'll probably put them in the ground when they're a little bigger. Might go back for some sowing later.

    • Weather rubbish again here today. Damp, foggy and rainy.

Looks like being the same all week.

      • I've set 12 varieties of herb seeds to chit on damp kitchen paper in plastic bags in airing cupboard. If they all germinate I'm going to be sowing for weeks! I when a bit nuts, no half open packets went back into the seed tin! Potted on some aubergines, tomatoes, sweet peppers and 4 varieties of sunflower ( 39 plants). Planted out my new mint plants and a lemon curd thyme. Pricked out some coriander.

        • I received a txt last night from Frances who let me have all those slabs via Freecycle a few weeks back that 6 of the rest of them were ready for collection. I was up at the crack of dawn, reviewing some calculations and drawings for a client who's builder and structural engineer don't see eye to eye. Then once the rush our was over I went to collect them thinking that one trip would do it.

What awaited me was not the textured slabs, but 600 x 600mm x 50mm thick dense concrete smooth slabs that had been under the massive shed which has now been replaced. So not 6 or 8 per trip but 3 because of the thickness. two trips wiped out the rest of the morning and the last an hour and a half in the afternoon.

I was lucky that my brother in law Keith was over the allotment and helped me unload and stack them. They will not be going much further from where they are stacked only in front and the side of the shed as they are too heavy to hump anywhere else.

Once they are in place I can finally fix the location of bed in front of the shed. It looks like I will be catching up with work tonight whilst the wife watches her soaps.

            • Yesterday after dropping off my grand-daughter, I potted on 24 tomato plants. Lawns still too wet to mow despite a lovely day today. Maybe tomorrow?

              • Took our potato bin count up to 17, plus two small bags for our daughter.
                Netted them all up (cats)
Re potted 5 tomatoes that I bought from BQ this morning. Sorry - hanging head in shame.
Because we away early May this year, I have decided not to plant any more seeds until we return.
So these tommies are my insurance policy, in case it goes wrong.
My husband 'allowed' me to purchase a small blowaway thing. I've put it in the shed with the greenhouse still in its box ...........

                • I decided to bite the bullet & plant 6 tomato plants into their final position. As they are in a netted polytunnel I've given each of them a bubble jacket for a couple of weeks. Also planted 8 Runners into a half barrel & again put a bubble jacket around the barrel. Did a bit of hoeing & filling in of some holes that the breeding wabbits have made. It's more or less good to go on't plot.

                  • Planted some CFBs in flower buckets in the GH. If the weather warms up they can go outside, if not, they can stay inside!
Put a few more tomatoes in their final positions in the GH. Several have flower buds forming
Potted up some courgette and squash seedlings

Are your melon pears showing signs of life yet or do they still look dead? I'm starting to get worried about mine.

I planted out a double row of peas and some swiss chard, put some older short carrot and spring onion seed into chit and potted up the two tromboncino plants that came in the post. I also took cuttings of various herbs for a friend

                          • I bought myself a wilk@s blowaway greenhouse - very exciting. Only concern now is whether I'll actually be able to get in to the garden once everything's in place - I might have to purchase some stilts

                            • Started the day with a smile when I saw that the runner and blue lake beans I self saved had germinated overnight.

Planted the Nigella Love in a mist seedlings I sowed as an experiment and sowed more direct in the front garden.

Got hit with a couple of heavy showers so going to have a lazy day and watch a film

                              • Last nights visit to the plot revealed a tiny green leaf breaking the surface where the first early potatoes went in and so we put the row of second earlies.
Beetroot and carrots plus one pea shoot broken the surface. There was some blossom on the pear tree so I dusted with some string fluffed up.
Overwintered broad beens are in full bloom, the warmer weather and longer days are starting to bring spring to the land.
Played with the hoe and went home feeling alright about things even though there is much work to be done.
