        • With a little help from snadger got the frame up for my new greenhouse. At 8*10 its MASSIVE compared to my two blowaways from last year which gave about 14 square foot of growing space each - this should give about 60

                • Bought a 100L sack of vermiculite from eBay yesterday; £21.99 including delivery - bargain! The local garden centre want £7.99 for a mere 10L bag!! Cheapest I've seen 10L bags elsewhere is still £5 - £6.
Day off today so figured I'd do some outdoor jobs. But of course it's tipping down... So that means boring undercover jobs. So far I've tinkered with the mower and washed some pots. Could always sow some seeds later if weather doesn't improve, so not all bad.

100L Philthy, that will keep you going for a while?

For anyone needing a smaller bag of Vermiculite or Perlite, I get mine from Wilko, £4.25 for 10L, free click and collect.

                      • Earthed up my potatoes & it's started raining again,we had a bit of thunder earlier & yesterday too. It's nice never having to water my brussels sprouts since they've been planted out there months ago.

                        • Today I planted chitted sweet corn and dwarf french beans into square pots of MPC - one seed per pot for the corn, 2 per pot for the beans.
Also sowed another big pot of Radish "Sparkler" and some more Webbs lettuce in a small pot. The lettuce pot goes in the fridge overnight and comes out into the greenhouse tomorrow. This wakes the seeds up nicely.

                          • Martin, does this 'fridge' overnight stay, apply to all types of lettuce seed?
And if you sow direct, (yes, yes I know I can't put the raised bed in the fridge .....! ) does it help to put the seed packet in the fridge first??

Definitely! I'll use at most half the bag and the rest will keep for next time. I use it every year in my potting mix, and this is by far the most economical way to buy it (around here at least).

Though I have just looked up and discovered a Wilko's not far from my work, so I'll go take a look
