      • So today I spent a bit of time oogling at my greenhouse. Haven't been down since Wednes day due to work.

The sweetcorn is up - each of my 18 toilet roll tubes has one or two little sweetcorn plants. My runners and frenchies are up as well - glad the runners are up as it's self saved seed from a couple of years ago, last year they came to nothing and I resowed new shop bought seed but thought that I'd give them ago this year as I still have time to resow.

My squashes and courgettes are almost all up - including my Dills Atlantic Giant so I had better start prepping their beds. Melons and cucumbers are also starting so thats good.

My skirret has starting to germinate - yippee, I've been wanting to try this and now I have a lot more space I can have a perennial section. Also to go into this section will be the Couve Galega which has a few seedlings popping up.

A dead stick has came back to life - a vine I was sure had died is now popping up buds. Now another grape vine to figure out space for

Checking outside my onions are up, my garlic is up, my shallots are up, my peas are getting along nicely and the kiwi has new buds opening near the top of the stem after all the others got frosted off - had thought that It may have to regrow from buds near the bottom but now I have the extra few feet saved. The rhubarb I split up earlier is still around and doing OK.

Transplanted a chive. OK, last year it was 1 chive, this year it was a healthy bunch. Split them up into single chives and planted them a couple of inches apart along the edge of the path underneath the honeyberries (which appear to be forming a few berries - nice).

Weeded under the strawberries which are nice, big and healthy and flowering nicely. These are underneath the berry hedge and noticed that the gooseberries I planted last year then hacked back to prune have a few goosegogs on them. One of my red currant bushes died but the others are doing well (hmmm, space to plant a grape vine?)

Attacked the pampas grass with shears- ok that's not going to kill it but it means that I can get to the new growth with weed killer.

Emptied the darlek, put up a bean frame and started to lay out the tubing for the micro drip irrigation in the greenhouse.

Oooh yes - I made a hook in the greenhouse to hang my coat on.

        • I made a few Self Watering Pop Bottle Propagators so yesterday I have sown:-

          Cucumber - Miniature White
          Cucumber - Kiwano
          Cucumber - Cucino F1 Hybrid

To add to the Burpless and Marketmore that were sown last week.

          Celery - Green Sleeves
          Celery - Tango
          Celery - Giant Pascal

First year sowing Celery, the seed are so tiny from what I have read on the back of the packets looks like I need to get the cold frame back in action but for the moment they are in the Space saver greenhouse.

          • Erm, I bought some runner beans and sweetcorn plants from the market, £1 a strip. It would have been rude not to!

            • Planted out a load of Sweet William seedlings.

Cut down the purple Broccoli & was going to plant the tomatoes when a pal called with a load of privet clippings mixed with grass so turned the compost bin instead.

              • Some of my toms are forming flowers so I filled up a polythene bed, tied string to the roof and planted out 6 toms. Plugged them into the irrigation system turned on the timer for 4 hours then went to the dentist.

I smiled when I came back in just in time to see the drippers dripping (I say smiled - half of my face was still numb from the injections so I probably looked like I was constipated)

Cut down some comfrey, chopped it up and squashed it into an airtight bucket with a tap at the bottom to try and get concentrated comfrey feed - how much do I need for 100 litre water but?

I had a pile of broken paving slabs sitting in the corner of the front of plot 3 which were in my way but I couldn't be bothered to move them so I made a little crazy paving entrance to the new plot 1&2 (note to self - sow the herbs to plant in the path)

                • Potted up a couple of chilli's. Chopped the head off another chill. Potted on lot of herbs.
Got very excited when I spotted a few little potatoes sticking their heads out of the ground.
New bedding plants arrived so started potting them on.

Hmm composters. Mum has a big black thing wants to saw up. I should bring it here. Only thing is rats. We had one under our shed as neighbour feeds birds on grass. Maybe if didn't add food . I'd need to secure bottom though . Chicken wire? Don't want nests.

Oh saw first wasp today, was it a queen ? Dunno , big . Eating aphids of my pot grown roses.
I ran away. (Wasp not the aphids)

                    • I saw a couple of wasps last weekend CG... I'm sure its too early for them! They were hovering suspiciously so I ran away too

                      • If they were hovering, maybe they were hoverflies? They do like to pretend to be wasps, but they are actually harmless. Their hovering ability is a bit of a giveaway...

                        • Potted on more tomatoes. Sweet corn has germinated and is about an inch tall. I have far too many tomatoes but my very kind neighbour will sell some surplus plants at the Car Boot sale for me. He is a very nice man. Peas that I planted in some guttering are starting to germinate. Gloriously warm and sunny here today so it is all systems go!

                          • More cultivating, more weeding.

                            Potted up all the curcurbits. I appear to have 6 x courgettes, 2 x marrows, 2 x pumpkins, 3 x squash and 3 x cucumbers.

                            Ooops.

                            • Planted the tomatoes in the greenhouse, 6 plants in 2 growbags, 1 in a large pot, and potted on 5 more just in case. Beetroot transplanted from modules into the garden.

Things are looking good, but we are in for a cold couple of days, so will be putting fleece over the bedding etc that is hardening off. Would like to get the runner beas out, but will wait until next week.

Enjoy your gardening, it's all go at the moment.
