  • Potted on tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse. The toms are now in their final pots and forming the first flower trusses.

Hardening-off will be suspended now for a few days, I'll re-start on Monday.

    • I was going to have a cup of coffee but ended up putting cardboard over part of a bed. Then I was going to have a cup of coffee but ended up barrowing manure to put on the cardboard.

Then I was going to have a cup of coffee but got distracted and planted out rhubarb, Taunton Deane kale, Dauberton kale, 9 star broccoli, sweet cicely, bronze fennel, babbington leeks, Scots Lovage, sea kale and walking onions.

THEN I was going to have a cup of coffee - ended up transplanting some elephant garlic instead.

THEN I WAS GOING TO HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE. Couldn't find my flask so I threw soil onto the broken flagstones I put down earlier.

Then I found my flask poured myself a cup and settled down to pot on my squash and courgettes.

Then Snadger popped in for a chat.

I'm now sitting at home typing this up drinking a flask of lukewarm coffee.

      • Intended to plant out some more leeks and water the plot with hose......nice easy evening sez I!

Finished up using draw hoe to cover up spuds that were showing above ground and progressing with my summerhouse! Added another humungus pane of glass and fastened it in position. Only one more pane of glass to go in the front now!

Talked to plotholder who was lamenting her sporadic tomato germinattion. I had loads spare so gave her six varieties which were ready to pot on. That was my good deed for the day.

            Still stinging.
Lovely sunshine but to be cloudy and colder tomorrow. Boooooooooo.

              • Just placed an order for 6 gravel boards from Wickes in order to construct 2 raised beds. I struggled to make up my mind and didn't want to spend a lot of money so chose this option as the delivery is reasonable. Hopefully I've made the right choice!

                • Sadly, only had time to greet/water seedlings/plants in GH today, as otherwise occupied ....
Then close up GH for the night ....
Off work tomorrow having an 'enforced rest' ...

Honeychild, I have scaffolding boards being delivered from Wickes on Saturday to construct my raised beds (hopefully 4!!!) - I'm so excited!

                      Sounds good SP

                      Walked dog
                      Worked
oH cut grass, I pulled out 20weeds of the zillion that have erupted this week *sobs*
                      Went to mils
Came home to de-stress with wine
                      Bedtime for work tomorrow....

Hmm composters. Mum has a big black thing wants to saw up. I should bring it here. Only thing is rats. We had one under our shed as neighbour feeds birds on grass. Maybe if didn't add food . I'd need to secure bottom though . Chicken wire? Don't want nests.

Oh saw first wasp today, was it a queen ? Dunno , big . Eating aphids of my pot grown roses.
I ran away. (Wasp not the aphids)
Yeah, it was probably a queen at this time of year although it's not beyond possibility it could have been one of the first worker wasps.

                        • This evening I went to the Hill and
                          • weeded about half the paths. I really need to hoof out the old chippings (and weeds!) and replace with new, but that is a chore. Possibly not as much of a chore as weeding the paths is. Hmm.
                          • weeded the asparagus bed. Poor neglected asparagus! I pinch a few shoots off each year before it goes mad and makes ferns, and I make an effort to squish the asparagus beetles, but at the end of the day, it's not the greatest of successes.
                          • planted out the broad beans - I're rethought the beans/pea beds this year and planted thest out as a block.

                          • Planted out some spinach seedlings. Pricked out some Pentland Brig kale seedlings into pots. I need to clear all the cr*p out of my cold frame so I can butterfly-proof half of it for my brassica seedlings.

                            • Put up 3 'wigwams' for my different beans, not much of a job ,but took some time!

Did a bit of weeding between some salad stuff, got fed up,so dug the bed,and sowed some more!

                              • Bought nine number 2.4m long timber decking planks from Wicks as they are £3.99 at the moment and took them to plot 23B. Cut three of them in half and I now have the timber for the next 3 raised beds ready for after I have dug and weeded. Put down the Weed Membrane on the path between bed 2 and what will be Bed 3.

Visited my local hardware shop and picked up the decking screws because they are cheaper than Wicks and I want to support the old fashioned Hardware shop, plus I had a number of Hooks Eyebolts, Angles and other items for projects.
