  • Achieved quite a lot today.

Planted my Maskotka toms into their hanging baskets in the polytunnel.
Dug some chicken manure pellets into the bed where the sweetcorn will go.
'Dug over' (i.e. with a pick axe) a patch of my new plot that had gone totally feral, removing a small mountain of nasty weeds, roots, plastic bags and old weed membrane. Added some chicken manure pellets and covered with a thick cardboard mulch.
    Weeded my roots bed.
Sheltered from the odd heavy rain shower in the polytunnel - bliss!

    • Hand weeded tattie rows. Planted out six chrysanthemum plants.

Progressed with work on summerhouse. Decided to only go with three large panes of glass in roof. The reason being is that the original idea of overlapping six X 7 foot by 3 foot panes isn't going to work out with a 28" overlap! New idea is for three panes only at the front and back part of roof to be plywood, or whatever I can scrounge.

This summerhouse is starting to rule my life, and with so many other interests and things to get done, I'll be glad when the basic shell is complete!

Loaned an allotment neighbour a hen to keep her one remaining one company.

      • Weeded about 2/3 of the strawberry patch. ( it's big!)
        Mostly buttercups and dandelions .
Was surprised to see so many healthy looking strawberry plants hidden in there.
We were going to remove them and start again ( hence leaving it to go weedy) but it's actually looking good!

Potted on some chillies and tomatoes
          Made up some flower pots
          Just made some salted slugs...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

            • Started making my nettle fertiliser today. The nettles weren't big enough in my garden so I had to go out picking them. Made sure I was out the way so people didn't think I'd lost the plot.

                • Today I attacked the compost bin in my garden. 200 litres bagged up ready to spread around when I pull up the forget-me-nots and wallflowers this week. Every little helps!

Tomorrow's job is to turn the second bin into the one just emptied.

                    • Bit the bullet and planted out some dwarf French and borlotto beans that I've been hardening off
Direct sowed a square each of sugar Ann peas, dwarf French and borlotto beans
                      Potted on courgettes and cauliflowers
Direct sowed some more radishes, spring onion and rainbow chard
Sowed some more beetroot in modules
Hubby built a bamboo frame that will have enviromesh attached and then it will be lifted over 4 X carrot bags, one more frame to be built next weekend!
Earthed up some of the container spuds
                      Mowed front and back lawns
Ummed and ahhhd about sowing some runners in the greenhouse but then decided against, I'm going to sow them direct in the bed next weekend.

Took some piccies and sat back and relaxed in the garden with a glass of cider!

                      • Everso excited ~~ ordered some bulk bags of vegetable/fruit topsoil to be delivered this week ~~ eeeeek! Nearly ready for sowing/planting, finally!!!!!!

Sowed some flower seeds hopefully to go in amongst my SFG beds : cosmos and nasturtium

DH, bless him, found his way outside and measured out my SFG beds and hammered some nails in position for marking out my square foot growing area: 3 beds with 21 squares and 1 bed with 12 squares.

                        Watered everything in GH

Stood and surveyed my plot with a big grin on my face >>> it's finally coming together

Think I have just about reclaimed & tidied the bottom end of the plot!

                              ...........

Then potted on the last few of the tomatoes
