  • I will be doing nothing today as the weather is horrible. Wet, misty, drizzle and cool. Been out and took a few side shoots off my tomatoes and that's about it.

                • Planted out 36 young lettuce plants ( got a bit carried away buying different varieties!)

                  Spring onion

Also a few flower seeds to brighten up the potager.
Just enough space to plant a few black spuds I've been chitting.

                    • I was going to paint my grey fergie tractor today but its never stopped raining. Fair enough sez I, I'll spend a day at the lottie indoors potting on..........................I wish!

Took the stihl saw to the allotment and cut the end of a raised bed that was constructed of aluminium sheet with insulation attached. While i had it there I attempted to cut the two 16'8" large RSJ's that I couldn't move into four 100 inch long RSJ's. All was going fine until i ran out of two stroke with a small amount still to cut. Used large hammer and bolster chisel to finish off but chisel ricocheted off and hit me in the knee.
Tried to break off some timber that had been hilti gunned to joists. Another ricochet and a piece of wood hit me just above the eye making it bleed. I'll probably have a black eye in the morning!
The outcome is, i must be the only person in the world with a raised bed 8'4" X 8'4" made from large RSJ's!
Planted seven courgettes and six Chrysanthemums within bed. Used half a bale of straw to create a mulch around the plants

                        • Just fleeced my carrots so i could get them out of my growhouse and left outside (and sowed another 2 buckets while i was on, not got 5 pots with carrots on the go).

Sowed 8 PSB into 3 inch pots which will go in the ground whenever i have room later in the summer when i've harvested something.

I also got some compost out of my compost bin. I'm not sure if it is ready yet so thought I'd try it with some little tomato plants i have spare (2 Roma VF's). I've planted one into half used compost and half compost out of the bin and just plonked the other one straight into compost out of the bin. If they die, then nothing lost really.

                            • Bit of a naff day weather-wise but managed to get quite a lot done on my new plot. You honestly wouldn't recognize it now from when i first acquired it. Deep down even i had a few misgivings, but not now, i love it.
Made up some hoops to protect some cabbage and sprouts I planted. Fertilized and added an organic slug repellent around each plant and surrounded with debri netting tied on to the hoops.
Put up a sixteen cane wigwam for my climbing french beans. The mix of yellow, green and purple beans were direct sown around wigwam. Added organic slug repellant to stop the little blighters chewing the tops off when they show above ground.

Had a bonfire to burn off cuts of plywood etc that wouldn't fit in my woodburner, I need the land where the fire was to plant veg!

Spent an hour earthing up my spud field with a draw hoe.

The summerhouse build has come to a standstill until we get some dry warm weather whence I will try and get the roof felted.
