  • Planted a tumbling yellow Tom in a hanging basket. Planted some spare sweet peas in a tub that's now sat on my overflow herb bench next to veggie garden perimeter fence. Now Breaking rule number one, growing none edibles in my veggie garden. Planted a chilli lemon drop in the raised bed in the big tunnel just to see how he does in open ground.

        • Shoved (sorry, lovingly re-planted my dwarf runners in there pots), shoved (sorry ditto) my kitchen courgette into a pot with a bell cloche on top. Shoved (sorry ditto) a few DFB seeds in to pots and gave the dog a good brush.

Oh and I have 3 flowers on my sugar snaps - yippppeeeeeee!

          • Did my post-work seedling check and all my lettuce seedlings which took FOREVER to come up have disappeared theyre under a cloche so its either underground slugs or bladdy earwigs. Not having much luck with lettuce so far this year!

Vix, I don't understand your lettuce problem - everything I've sown, so far (only in tubs ...) has grown with no problem .... don't mean to rub it in ...

                  • Spent a couple of hours down the allotment today.

I planted out some runner beans: 10 plants for 10 canes of my double wigwam. Also some young lettuces, Salad Bowl Red and Webbs Wonderful, in the space left after I pulled up some bolted mizuna.
I thinned out radish, kohl rabi, mizuna, cornflower, cosmos and godetia seedlings.

Plus some half-hearted weeding and some watering.

                    • Yesterday evening - potted on some more tomatoes. I am gradually 'getting rid' of my surplus. Neighbour sold 12 for me last weekend, I gave away 5 at work and I have earmarked 6 for friends and family. Planted out 8 romanesco in the raised bed at home; I am working on the premise that when one even looks like it MIGHT bolt I shall pick it INSTANTLY because I can monitor them from the kitchen window
Also planted out some Little Gem type lettuce.

                      • One of my brussels sprouts sowed in autumn has blown & flowered so I've pulled it out,two of the plants planted out earliest had some wind rock early in the year but I've got a good patch of sprouts elsewhere so I don't mind,it's all an experiment to see how they do sowed in the autumn. Not sure I want sprouts with salad but we'll see what happens? Planted out some dahlias yesterday & my cat obviously used that bit for a toilet so that's nice when you're using your bare hands. Been planting out tomatoes in pots with petunia, french marigolds & geraniums. Planted a few tomatoes in the ground with a petunia purple tower between them in a pot so some colour amongst the green.

Put the last 3 of my tomato side shoots that i had sat in water rooting into little 4 inch pots.

Just wish the sun would come out.

They were direct in to the raised bed - which was no problem last year! I'll sow some more into modules and then plant out

                            • Five hours at the plot - I'm jiggered! Forked and raked beds. Planted out my leeks, sweetcorn, some cauliflower, climbing French beans and the squash. Weeding and hoeing! Much! Planted parsnips and radish. Found an enormous ant nest in the middle of one bed. Dug it all over for the birds and left it. Lots of jobs still to do - need to weed the strawberry bed and the garlic tomorrow. Also plant another row of peas, some kale and spinach beet. And another row of turnips if I have some seeds left. And use the site strimmer to cut back the paths and edges. Shower and change now and I am going to the pub!! Yay.

                              • Potted on what seemed like hundreds of plants, in reality was approx. 20 toms, 20 each of cauli and cabbage, 2 sprouts and some kale and PSB.
Sowed some beetroot tape in one of my squares, earthed up spuds.
Put some canes in the runner bed, runners will be direct sown tomorrow as I watered the bed and it's now too wet......
