    • I watered everything (including raised beds, which I don't normally do). One less thing for other half of to do when I'm away. He just has to look after my tunnels and tubs.
      Mowed the lawns.

      • It was so cold today it was hardly believable that tomorrow is the start of flaming June!

Managed to get a support fitted for my flue pipe on the woodburner in the summerhouse. Once i knew exactly where it was going I could 'piece in' the roof around it, which i did. I have a metal plate with a hole in it the size of the flue pipe which is fastened to the roof. The woodwork comes no closer than 50mm so this should save me from burning the summerhouse down now i've practically finished it!
Decided to light the woodburner once flue was positioned correctly to warm myself up!

Only need to source a half glazed door now and get the roof sealed off and felted. Surely we'll get some warm sunny weather before long?

        • Potted on 4 x Pretty Purple chillis - have left them in GH
Planted another 2 grow bags with Black Cherry and Black Russian toms
Earthed up 3 x grow bags of Lady Christl potatoes as some 'green' showing through

'Tickled the top' of the pond - got out two large bucketfuls of 'green stuff' and bits of rotting branches, leaves, etc. Hoping I'll be able to restore it to some of its former glory with a bit of tlc..!

Fed tadpoles and noticed they were starting to eat the mealworms I'd put in they're changing perhaps.

Are those dried mealworms or live ones CG? I ask because I have some dried ones left over so wondering if I should try and feed my tadpoles with them.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

I chucked them in a week ago for the newts ..in the hope they didn't eat the tadpoles .
I think the worms have rehydrated now, I've been researching feeding tads as we rescued so many and I've a small pond so I've been feeding them thawed bigs of frozen balls of spinach (only baby if fresh again microwaved) or lettuce microwaved and chopped up (not kos or iceberg) .
Did I realise I was taking on pets ????!!!! Nope

I read today worms can be rehydrated in some warm water and then put odd ones in. If they eat them , then add more.
You can feed then fish food , or add a cuttlebone , they need calcium when turning to frogs (re eating meat/fish) to gain their bones.

I never knew tads so well

                          • Monday was another glorious day, so back to the plot for strimming and planting. Planted another row of peas, some dwarf kale, more turnips and some perpetual spinach. I have only one unused bed! And I have cauliflower plants that need a home, so guess where they are going. Then back home to mow the lawns and pot on tomatoes and aubergines. This is my first year growing aubergines and so far they are looking good. Not really sure how big they grow and how much space to allocate them in the greenhouse(s). Time to do a bit of proper research.

                            • Bought Brussels sprout plants from Wyevale reduced to 50% thank god because mine have all died, next year I'm growing twice as many a fortnight apart, I would rather compost some than have to buy them as it goes against the grain.

Pleased to see some toms forming on my Peter Glazebrook giant tomato plant (it always amazes me how he spent so much time in the garden when he was appearing on Crackerjack)

Seems I was thinking of Peter Glaze
