        • Not done much this week at all, havent needed to water once!

Babysat two of my nieces at the plot on sunday (7 & nearly 2)... The two year old had a whale of a time emptying all the dirt out one of the raised beds and making muddy puddles, my sister said they were proper filthy when they got home :
We managed to plant some calendulas and put up a pot luck brassica cage (as i have no idea what is brocolli or cauliflower in there), and thats really been it. Ive potted up a couple of toms into 30cm pots, im hoping they will be big enough. Still got loads of stuff to go in over the plot.

              • Mrs H is away this week on hols, so today I planted up a trough with herbs by the back door, she's been mentioning she'd like one:

I already had the trough doing not much so I was happy to redeploy it. The plants were overpriced (special offer: 6 for $12) considering they were in only average condition from the local Wyv@le, but I used xmas gardening vouchers so that's ok too.

I also bought that rosemary and stuck it in a nice pot. It would take over the trough so I thought I'd let the sage do that instead.

Two more things to remember to water...

                • All my toms and aubergines are now in MFBs in their final places along with the biggest lemon drop chilli plant. I ran out of compost for the rest of the chillies so that will be a job for when the OH returns.

Sweetcorn, Cucamelon, borlotti beans and crystal lemon cucumbers are planted out and with a last minute addition of lavender the raised bed is now full!

Goodness knows where everything else is going to go!!

                    • Going from the greenhouse to the new teritories of my second plot usually means going round the sheds through the front and into the next plot. In between the two plots is a tin fence, some of which I pulled out at the front yesterday. Today I decided to take a saw and cut out a chunk of it near my greenhouse and up near the top of the plots (can't take out the middle as that forms the base of my fruiting fence.)

After that, now I've cleared the flagstones and plastic out of the way I decided to finish off the front fence of the Jungle (it's only been on the todo list for a year now). Not perfect but definately a boundary fence.

As I was on a fencing theme I took down and started to rebuild the front fence on the new territories.

The person who used to have the garden the other side of me but doesn't any more came over and gave me a big pile of slats for the fence which, with the three panels I had stashed at the back are enough to do the fence.

The fence was so eager it kept trying to fall down so before I took it down I had to shore it up, otherwise there'd have been a twisted pile of wood nails and chicken wire lying on the road right inside the gate.

Pretty chuffed with how it's coming along but need to take the drill and screws down to finish it off (in true Heath Robinson style the panels are tied on with string).

Suddenly the garden looks totally different and massive. It also looked tidier yesterday.

After that I watered the garden, weeded and generally gawked at the beds.

                        • I did my paths around my beds - just about had enough of the slatey/stoney things. Could probably do with a bit more to top it up a bit, but I'm pleased with the overall look of things .... (Took me all day barrowing the loose stones from the other end of the garden to the path area - and it was so hot ...!!)

Planted my nasturtiums and cosmos and my one solitary butternut squash! Oh yes, watered all thirsty babies in GH ....

                            • This morning I planted out my first lot of sweetcorn in the polytunnel beds. The giant root trainers I had them in were packed with roots, so hopefully they'll romp away now. I'll put the second lot in in a few weeks.
Chopped down the 5' tall comfrey and stuffed it all into a 25 litre water container to make tea.
Watered the strawberry baskets and gave them a feed with last years comfrey tea... the strawbs are swelling nicely, and some are even starting to turn pink!
