I wanted a barrier that would shock interlopers with high voltage and sparks.

Instead I've built an eclectic fence.

Apart from building the fence and a bit of weeding I decided it was too wet to do anything else so I went home for tea.
You know, I must walk around with my eyes closed! I went in and out of the main gate tonight and didn't even notice the fence! That was AFTER i stood chatting to you in the car park earlier!

        • Planted out a rather wonky double row of Swiss chard for baby summer leaves, planted out half the huazontle ( love that word). Planted out outdoors cucumber. Put bamboo canes from a friends overgrown bamboo in round some runners. Meant to prick out various seedlings but got dark! Also started weeding drive (well it does have 2 foot high ox-eye daisies in it)

Weeded brambles under lilac in preparation for children's den when power company comes to chop 6ft off the ash trees & chip them for us for free - yay

          • What I did today was go into mourning...........I have spent the last few days closely looking at everything in my teeny weeny growing spaces trying to decide on the best action for the carnage before me so today I have.......

Ripped up all my turnips, half of my beetroots, all of the kale, salad leaves and spinach as it had all either bolted soon after it got to the 3 in high size (turnips and beetroot had so much top growth that there were no bulbs forming) or slug damage killed them.

Cut off ALL of my strawberries as they were either mouldy or so slug bitten they were useless.

Emptied the contents of 4 MFB's as the carrots had not germinated.

Threw away the 2 dead butternut plants (Butterbush) even though they have been under cloches as they finally gave up the will to live.

My tatties are 4 ft high (including their extra large buckets) with only just the hint of flowers and the toms have essentually stopped growing.............and I have now had 5 blight warning emails.

The DFB's and dwarf runners are stunted because of the cold and wet.........and let's not forget the slugs. They may end up in the bin in a weeks time if they don't put some effort in.

So, most of my veg has been ripped up or inspected for blight.

I am going to leave it for 7 days to see what the weather does and if it starts behaving I might re sow some bits and pieces if not this is me done for this year.

Now off to replace beer in the traps, lightly sand the copper tape, spread more slug barrier and throw organic slug pellets everywhere.

            • Oh I forgot to mention that the sweet peppers and chilli's have rotted, the parsnips are going great guns to the point of 'they should not be this big now' and my leeks are surviving the chaos.

                • Sorry, I am just completely cheesed off as my OH worked so hard to get things ready for planting and now alot of it has had to be dumped.

The parsnips, leeks and sugar snaps are brilliant though.

                  • Had 4 spare spuds left off April when i planted my spuds so decided to plant one into a tumbling tomato hanging basket which holds about 10 ltrs. I've used the compost out of my compost bin which I havn't yet used yet so it'll be interesting to see how it does.

                    • Remember Lumpy, not all spuds flower, i have had years like that and even this year has been a challenge, just lost all my sprouts, took four attempts to get runners and french beans to germintate. Squashes went into reverse etc.

Very disheartening but isnt that just part of growing your own

                        • Yesterday really, pricked out 40 each winter cabbage & romanesco (bit late but we'll see) & masses of weeding in flower bed.

Next year I'm going to sow cabbage etc straight into modules & just pinch off any extras as seeds are cheap & pricking out takes ages

Was helped by small child & a toy Peter rabbit. Peter rabbit did gymnastics in my tomatoes including pulling a cane out to use as a slide!

Rain today, so will try to get in greenhouse to pot on cucs & tidy up a bit.

                            • I was at the allotment nice and early this morning .... spent a few hours just weeding the spud / onion beds .... picked half a bucket of broad beans, several pounds of rhubarb .....

                              • Potted on the aubergines to their final place in the glass shed at the allotment. Weeded the onions and sweetcorn - re-netted the brassicas ... all this rain has made them grow like crazy things. Site manager had lifted my garlic for me (it had rust) and so I raked over the vacated bed and planted some mooli, beetroot and turnips. Borrowed the site strimmer and cut back all the grass on the paths. Picked and ate 3 ripe strawberries. Just need a little warmth to fill the pods on the peas (there are many!) and the broad beans. Maybe I can mow the lawns at home tomorrow?
