    • Busy day today. Cleared a bed of 3 foot high weeds and hoed surface to make a tilth for planting out Cauliflowers. Planted 21 cauliflowers and 20 leeks in said bed. Put three hoopps up around caulis and surrounded with debrtis netting.
Put enviromesh around my torpedo onions which were getting flattened by pigeons.
Hand weeded my autumn planted onion bed
Hand weeded my spring planted onion bed
Hand weeded and hoed my leek bed.

Cleaned out my hexagonal coop which has a broody hen sitting in the nestbox on eggs. Blocked of the pophiole to stop the others getting in. Put sawdust on the floor, hopefully for the new arrivals when they arrive. 21 days (including the two days she has been sitting) should see them due on roughly 10th July! Hope this onmes as good a mum as tuther.
Talking of which, she and her brood are still camera shy.

Was sitting up a tree, cutting down some overhanging branches on my new plot when OH rang me and asked "Didn't you have a work related meeting in 15 minutes time?" I think i ran two red lights trying to make it back in time!

      • Weeded, weeded, weeded.

Dug over a small patch where a PSB was, removing the usual kg or so of rusty nails etc, planted out sweet peas and dahlias.

Met a hedgehog ambling down the track and passed the time of day with him.

                  • Not a lot but very chuffed all the same. A long way to go outside to how I would like it but I have come far enough to be pleased with lots.

Sorted out Febs. grafted trees. Out of 30 I have 3 weak ones and have lost 7 (2 apples, 3 pears due to scions - 1 pear, 1 medlar due to rootstock)
Picked 5 reasonable carrots for the first time in 4 years.
                    Potted on some diddy leeks.
Planted out the last of my herbs and chrysanths.
Spied new shoots coming on a globe artichoke the ducks ate.
Spied some teeny, teeny, teeny flowers coming on my melon pear.
Put my two aubergines in the poo lake for a feed.

                    • Added a bit BFB to my garden as a top dressing today and raked/watered it in.

Just been out and cut all the bottom leaves off my tomato plants to let more air through and so i can see what i am doing in the growhouse.

                        • I'm a lumberjack and I don't care....................except when the tree branch i've just cut down has a bees nest in it!
Shirt off, sweating and up a tree, cut to bits lopping off branches which overhang my plot isn't the ideal palce to be. Once down on bottom started to chop branches up and was immediately surrounded by bees..............time for a sharp exit!

On the plus side, i managed to get a few piccies of my hen with her chicks! I haven't downl;oaded them yet but will put them on the chicks thread once i get time.

I went over my old plot to do a bit of weeding (mainly goosegrass) from my old pea net frame and lo and behold was surrounded by bees again! Different ones this time, but i don't mind as my plot is bee friendly and I encourage them. Its just a bit of a pain looking for other jobs that need doing away from the bees.

                          • Gave my tomato plants a good trim. Removed all lower leaves and they now look very 'airy'
Ate another giant strawberry, not as big as yesterday's but a giant size
My new flower border is coming along nicely, someone donated 4 bedding geraniums, so they joined the perennials
Oh, and had a lovely ham sandwich for lunch with copious amounts of fresh picked watercress in.
                            Have a lovely evening
