    • Potted on some tomatoes into their final space as they were getting too large for their pots, dumped a fair bit of concrete into the bin (apparently you're allowed a certain amount each week!), picked raspberries, cried a little over the courgette plants that an escapee chicken tore up yesterday and had a general tidy up in the garden. It's still a mess, especially as everything is shifted out of the way for the new fence, but plenty to tidy up lol

      • Oh and I pulled at least ten sticky weed/cleavers that had emerged since just the other day. I discovered that my neighbour's garden is absolutely covered in them, when I took the old fence down

        • I had to take down my brassica netting/cage & squash loads of little caterpillars, not cabbage whites though, they're much smaller & dangle on their web, their heads used to be black but now they're older it's a lighter yellowish colour & some are completely webbed onto the leaves about to change again,I don't want any of these turning into adults & re-infesting although there could still be an adult around? I prefer cabbage white caterpillars they're much easier to find & less of them! They're on my brocolli & Brussels sprouts, happy I spotted them in time, imagine going away for two weeks there would be nothing left? I wonder when they stop laying eggs etc......

          • Did a few hours of border digging/weeding. Have only cleared a small area, at least it's a start..!!

The by-product of my weeding efforts gave me a large tub full of nettles, which I've chopped up and will drown unmercilessly in a couple of days once they've wilted down a bit, ready to make a lovely brew ..!

            • One of the small bantam chicks (now named Houdini) had managed to escape out of the broody coop and was bedraggled in the rain in the main run. After chasing it for one and a half hours I was nearly as bedraggled as it was. Finally managed to get it back though and it got a good scoldinmg amd a cuddle off Mum!

                • Got back after 4 days away & inspected everything - now need to say a big thank you to my neighbour as everything fine & a bit bigger

Nothing else done due to children awake late after a 5 hour drive....

Off to pick some bits for a very late supper, & contemplate the mountain of unpacking to do....
                  Another happy Nutter...

                  • Just been getting some more nettles from around the garden to start more nettle feed. Strained what was left of the first bucket so I had a free bucket to fill again. So ive got one full bucket ready for use after I used what was is left of the strained first bucket and a new bucket of nettles just started in water. Stinky!

The strained stuff is a very deep green.

                    • Nipped into the garden at Lunch as I am working from home today and tied in the tomato plants in the greenhouse. Then spotted my first cucumber of the year so decided to harvest it before the slugs took a bite out of it.

                        • Put up training wires on the fence - also put wire mesh on the outside to protect the fruit from wandering hands but forgot to bring my staples down. The mesh has been in the loft since last year as I bought it cheap in the sales - a quater of the price was too good to miss and I knew I'd have a use for it.

Jiggled about a bit in the greenhouse taking out the staging to make space for the peppers.

As it was starting to rain I thinned out the carrots, parsnips and coriander in a hope that the rain will wash away the scent, also thinned out the pak choice, swede, beetroot, khol rabi and spinach.

Weeded the peas (lots of flowers starting and a fer pods forming on Champion of England ) and the beans.

Raspberry is turning red (ok I do have more than one - just) and some of the black currants are nearly done. Overwintered onions are starting to yellow so should be up soon.

                          p.s.

Almost forgot - Took down the blowaway cold frame and took the black plastic off that half of the bed. There were masses of ants, their eggs and cocoons - dug the bed over which the ants definitely wouldn't like. Nice fine soil though.

planted out two more pumpkins and a couple of paty pans. That jusP leaves three trombone squash to find space for and plant out.

                            • More digging out of horsetail at allotment (I found out that a past plot resident used a rotavator which made it even worse), earthing up potatoes, watering and tidying up. Did some more cutting back of an overly large bay shrub while there - I'm gradually reducing its size as it casts a bit too much shade. Oriental mustard mix sown last week has germinated, but the other seeds sown at the same time aren't showing yet.
