  • My Joan J cell grown raspberries came today and I had to get them in so off to the plot for an hour or two.

My overwintered onions were ready to come up - aarrrggggghhhh white rot so they'll get chopped and frozen. Dug the soil out the bed and into bags. Dug up the frame for the bed (currently leaning on the shed), dug the ground over adding chicken manure and compost and planted the raspberries which till now had been sitting in a bucket of water.

Picked a pot of strawberries and a pot of blackcurrants (which have been nabbed for jam) and ate a couple of raspberries and gooseberries.

Now off to sleep as I'm on nights this week.

White rot doesn't asffect raspberries which are a long term crop, so why bother changing soil?

Wondered why frame was propped up as I came past this evening!

Wasn't changing the soil - removing the raised bed edge from the bed to move it to the new teritories as this was the only raised bed in what was otherwise my fruit garden.

Had to remove the excess soil as it would have just fell in a heap on the path.

The move of the bed was already on the cards and not as a reaction to the white rot.

                • Dug over the garden where I took out my onions and potatoes. Sowed three drills of carrots, Autumn King.
Realised I had nothing to cover them with against my cat.
Had a poke round in OH shed and found an old hose that had seen better days. Cut it into even lengths, put a bamboo cane into each end and then covered it sll in hessian sacks which our logs come in.
Knew they would come in handy for something.

                        • This morning I popped into the Lottie after work just to pick a Patipan which should have been picked earlier - ended up with a Patipan, 3 courgettes, some peas and a handful of toms.

I decided to move the dug up raised bed frame to the back so it's one less thing to do, ended up clearing some of the area that it's going to go into.

After that I looked over to a fence that needs to come down and wondered how easy it would be to pull off the slats - pretty easy as it turns out as Ive got most of them off

I keep trying to go down and do not - but I get distracted.

Looking forward to the time when the plot is sorted and no major work to be done so I can just go down, pick something and leave.
