  • Did an hours work nailing boards onto my new hen hut. Utilised a small opening window scrounged from jay-el so that chooks get the rising sun in the morning , letting them know its time to get up!
He's already dumped another window on me and tried to get rid of another , but I'm not biting this time!

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

    • Managed to re-vamp the 2nd half of the plot. Just need to top up the soil levels, give the wood a coat of sommat & lay some turf on the paths.

      • Went in greenhouse & discovered this

Did some emergency repairs. Fed greenhouse plants, weeded veg patch & chopped off dodgy squash leaves.

I've seen a few people mention they're trying to grow carrots (and even peas and beans) in the greenhouse over winter. You have any experience doing it? Definitely something I'd like to have a go at!
Not really although I remember sowing some carrot seeds in August about 3 or 4 years ago and I ate them for Xmas. They were just left outside as well but these will be in the grow house and maybe even get a layer of fleece if it gets too cold.

They way I look at it is, its worth a try.

          • Watered the front & back garden, picked some beans & tomatoes, bit of weeding and got my nephew to separate dahlia seeds from the scuff in return for having his internet privileges restored (He'd been cheeky)

            • Well Im very excited, managed to get my hands on FOUR 6x4 greenhouses from B&Q for a fiver each!

They were in the clearance section marked up at £75 each. The woman saw me eying them up and said that they were accepting offers... Well I said £50? She then muttered out the corner of her mouth "try a fiver", I said a fiver? (Not quite grasping what she was getting at)... "Sold!".... So I ended up with four, two for me, two for my plot neighbour! We also got about three years worth of led light bulbs for 10p each... We only went out for a paint chart!

              • Easy day at the plot today. Harvested a handful of frenchies and runners. Grabbed the last of the broadies and cut down the plants.

Chopped down some of the peas, pulled out the broccoli, trimmed off some of the seed arms from the Jersey Kale, pulled up the onions and lay them on the bed, harvested more courgettes, spring onions, tomatoes and some Taunton Deane kale.

My egyptian onions flower stalks were drying off so nipped off the top sets and potted them. Done the same with the elephant garlic that formed a topset.

Struck a rich vein of 2x2 paving slabs at the back of the new teritories

                            • Yesterday I had a good long sesion at the allotment after washing my moggie minor which was engrafted with sap from a nearby tree.

I mainly concentrated on chicken coop building. I now have a front with a window and no door as yet. Half a back, half a side and half a roof! I had a big soild door on the plot which was utilised as half of the back of the coop. I wasn't prepared to cut it so instead brried it to the requisite height and nailed it on. Sounds a bit Heath Robinson I know but it actually works and looks very good. If I just keep nibbling away at it, I'll eventually get it finished.
A couple of my pumpkins have eventually set fruit, my onions have all flopped over so are ready to harvest and I noticed there are a crop of redcurrants ready for picking!

                              • Shifted some manky wood from the back of the jungle plot t the back of the new territories so I could pile up some manky wood from slightly further down the jungle. Knocked down a bit more of the old seethrough shack - even more seethrough as it only has 1 1/2 walls left. Next time I'm going to have to move the manky wood from the back of the Jungle to make room for this manky wood. Then I can knock down some more manky wood.

Refilled the water butts in the GH. Dug over a bed and sowed some Japanese onions. Pulled flowers off my giant pumpkins.

There was a drop off of manure so filled a dalek with manure - not fresh stuff but stuff that’s broken down quite a bit.

                                Nattered and chatted.
