  • Summer pruned the apples, pears, plums and cherry.

I had a couple of store bought garlic heads that were starting to sprout so I stuck them into a bed whole to grow some garlic greens for later on.

Decided to nip out a couple of branches of the hawthorn hedge that were shading out the bed - ended up cutting back a lot of it and pulling out quite a bit of dead wood - hadn't had a decent pruning in years, ended up getting three foot of the bed back from it.

Still quite a bit of hedge to prune back though but now I can see the weeds growing in the hedge - bindweed, nettles, ground elder, real elder and ash.

Tomorrow I must remember to take my hackey bits down.

Long sleeves may also be a good idea.

    • Lots of weeding. Ripped out a few things that have finished, harvested all my beetroot about 5 kg ( just have to work out what to do with it ). Spent about 15 minutes watching a flock of long tail tits and a gold crest working there way round the hedge row in my veggie garden. Love them little fellas.

            • Not a lot at the allotment apart from sort the chooks and, take some leaves off my toms plus transport som trays to my other plot.
At my project house I cut the grass, planted a Perennial lavatera and transported 20 paving flags I scrounged , 5 at a time in a wheel barrow from a few doors away.
These will eventually be taken to my new allotment plot for use in my Afro/Inca garden!

              • Spent Saturday tidying up the outside of mums bungalow ready for tenets. I have aches in places I didn't even know were place's.
Today we visited the plot and I dug up two surplus rhubarb crowns, lifted two buckets of spuds. Collected 5 barrow loads of muck from the communal delivery. Disturbed a ground wasps nest! Harvested carrots, marrows, kale, raspberries, lettuce and some more onions. Enjoyed the warmth and the soft earth now we've finally had rain (and boy did it rain friday). Spending the afternoon aching in front of TV watching you too gardening and tractor vids.

                  • Popped down to Tynemouth flea market but didn't get any.

Back on the plot I trimmed back more of the hedge from over the beds.

Finally got round to taking cuttings of the Daubertons and Taunton Deane kales.

                    Done a bit of weeding.

Sat and watched the bees buzzing around the raspberries which are a fair size now , bigger than the earlier crop I had in summer. - wish they'd hurry up and ripen.

                      • I did some greenhouse clearing out today. We froze a bag of cherry tomatoes and 8 ripe sweet peppers.

I was going to go to the allotment but couldn't quite pluck up the courage to face the chaos, so stayed at home and did some dead-heading instead.
