  • I took advantage of the joiner being busy in the house to drag the OH outside to harvest potatoes. We got through 4 bags of 7 before he lost intrerest, but I'm pleased with the results! (I have pictures but it won't let me upload them at all!)

They were grown in grow bags, no earthing up, no feed, very little watering and lots of being totally ignored - and I have lots of bakers, which was the plan, so very happy!

There is sooo much to do in the garden - I picked a bowl full of gold rush currant toms, which are waiting fermenting for the seed circle, but everything else desperately needs attention. I need to try and do a bit of something each day instead of trying to find time to do it all in one go!

    • Dug up a row of Desiree spuds and along with some Charlotte spuds took them home to use. My passion fruit plant has all of a sudden decided to start growing (day length possibly?) I have put a cane in for it to climb up.
Brought my metal allotmrnt gate from my old plot to my new plot to be used as a gate for my chicken run!

Not yet Kevin. I've started reading 'Blogging for Dummies' which just about sums up my capabilities!

TBH I have so many interests, blogging could be classed as another one, and I haven't got time for another just now!

              What !!! - I've obviously missed this.

              Is there a problem ?
Not really, it's just that I've let it go a bit (a lot) this last couple of months and the weeds are taking over.

              Maybe tomorrow...

              • Attacked the Virginia creeper my neighbour has planted on a 6ft trellis for some reason. Sowed some optimistic carrots in gh & some radishes also in gh. Took the decision that I'm pulling up the second bed of Swiss chard as the first ones still growing strong, & there's only so much Swiss chard we can eat.

Will be replacing it with some raapini, turnip greens & pak choice sown under a big cloche to protect from slugs & cold. The Swiss chard will have the leaves taken off to be steamed, blanched & frozen in little balls to use as spinach.

Bought 10 kilos of daffs at the weekend & worked our where to put them.
                Another happy Nutter...

                  • Yesterday and today I had a good old clear-out in the greenhouse, getting rid of all the dead stuff and all the pots that didn't grow. Just two tomato plants, two cucumber plants and one chilli plant still producing now. Then I sowed two big pots of radish, some winter greens, some winter lettuce and some flowers: Nigella, Godetia and that blue chrysanthemum thing with the long name.

I squashed over a dozen snails in the process. I think they get in through the louvre vents!

                      • Lifted the last of the potatoes, not overly impressive this year. A bucket from a row 15 feet long!!!
Moved some muck from the temp 'dumped' heap to the pallet bound permenant pile.
Harvested the sweetcorn, cut off the runner beans, planted some 'hopefuls' in the plastic cold frame. Carrots, parsnips, swede & french beans. If they do anything it's a bonus and if not the seeds would be out of date anyway next year. It's noticable that you only get about 45 mins of daylight after work now.

                        • More compost material dropped off to Spencer Road and more butternut squash harvested yesterday, I also took the time to apply weed killer all around the perimeter of the plot as Bindweed in encroaching from Adams plot as well as under the paved path on the Mencap plot.

Today more tomatoes harvested at home and finally some large red beefsteak tomatoes that are ideal for slicing and going into burgers.

                            • Dint do a great deal gardening wise today, put a cage on one of the beds to divert the Squash over as it was trying to make friends with my Leeks. Played with the pond filter & waterfall, well chuffed with the filter medium from China, the pond is looking clearer already.
