Started on the rebuild of the new teritories today. Looked out the window this morning and decided to start it later on after the rain finished.
Went down in the afternoon and cleared and built one 1.2m by 4.2m (about 4 by 14 foot).
It's sort of like a ballet build a bed or two, move the soil out of the old bed into the new, demolish old bed, build new beds in space.
Ok it's muddier than ballet and I've never seen seen the Mouse King in steel toecaps wielding a nail gun.
Tomorrow it's moving the toilets, compost, cisterns etc for the next bed to be built.
Covered the bed with newspapers then shovelled some of the muck out of the old bed. Six months ago I looked at the soil in the bed and wondered if it was a good idea to take on the plot, it was grayish and didn't look/feel to good and had hardly any worms.
Covered it with cardboard, a thick layer of fresh horse muck and a mulch of pampas stems and planted my pumpkins.
Digging it today and it's really improved and was choc full of worms.

Wasn't going to have a fire today - I was going to concentrate on the reconstruction however I'm going to have three little 1m x 1m beds and the pampas grass is bang smack in the middle of of them.
The thing was a dense block of stalks - couldn't get the spade in, couldn't get the fork in but I did gt an inch thick metal bar in to try and prise a gap.
After straightening the bar I decided to burn it. Doesn't want to burn either. The outer bits of the stems burned but they burned quickly and the stump was then covered in a protective ash coating.
Piled more wood on and around it to try and smoulder it to smithereens - it's much depleted but still there.
I did move a toilet and pile of junk to build my next bed. Decided to build the bed around the dalek then empty it into the bed.
Dug out some of the soil from the old bed and exposed the end of the weed control fabric - two widths which don't quite make it to the edges and barely touch in the middle.
Hid in the greenhouse when it started to pour with rain. Afterwards dug some mud and decided that was enough for the day.

It's been a digging day.
Dug out the old bed and filled up the two new so that they are well piled up.The old bed is longer wider and deeper than the new ones so has enough muck left to fill up the third bed - which is unfortunately going in the middle of the old bed so I have to start dismantling it first.
Started to have a go at the pampas grass with the pick axe and azada - Snadger gave me a hand and most of it's out, but with the two of us wielding heavy bladed tools in close proximity as the light failed and darkness swept in I decided to call it a day.
