I planted some peppers and chilli's in december. Most of them are now up and doing OK but some of them have germinated but failed to push the actual seed off the seed leaves and then the whole thing Has fallen off and In turn, has no leaves. Just a little stem left which will die.

Any ideas as to why this happens?

I've had a quite a few times where the seed case has got stuck, but I usually manage to pull the case off and then they recover no problem. I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere about this but I can't find it in the search. Maybe one of the magical mods can locate it for you

I tried pulling it off on a few of them but it's no good, they hadn't came off at all so if I pulled it, the whole thing would come off.

Has anyone any ideas where That thread is?

Usually old seed. Try licking you fingers and wetting the seed case. They eventually come off. Don't be impatient, wet it a few times.

                  Thanks for those links.

I'll try wetting my finger and basically spitting on them in future.

The seeds were new seeds. Only saved from the back end of last year. Literally only a few months old in some cases.

Sowed my first seeds of 2016 today, chillies, sweet peppers and aubergines. They're now nice and cosy in the heated propogator on the utility room window ledge. Was going to do some early peas, mange tout and broad beans which will give me an early crop in the tunnel. It was raining though and I couldn't be bothered to get the trays I wanted from the shed

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
