          Near the hotbin

The tomatoes are romping away - ferline and mountain magic behind, roma and legend in front. No ripe fruit yet, but they are getting there.

          Near the apple tree

Some nice apples developing, although I've already had a few rotting and falling off (probably codling moth). Currants are finished now, Sungold tomatoes growing well and some should be ripening soon, runner beans in the corner behind the pieris.

          From under the archway

Growhouse is now full of cucumber, but no fruits setting yet. Fuchsia berry covered in flowers, but so far they have all dropped off without leaving any berries. Carrots and calabrese under the various nets, plus swedes under the little one at the back. Blackcurrant bush is getting a bit big for its net and I think I will move it out of there soon to give the gooseberry some space.

The dark area behind the fruit cage

Strawberries, finished at this end, perpetuals (Buddy) further away. Brokali and kohlrabi underneath. Potatoes and parsnips on the raised beds. The potatoes on the floor have been harvested once and replanted (Lady C). The beans in the pot on the fence are still producing the odd bean.

          The veg garden

More strawberries (finished), tomatoes and carrots in the quadgrow. Pak choi and spinach under the net, the last lot of Hurst Greenshaft peas, and Meteor against the fence. Courgettes just out of picture to the right. Runner beans growing up the archway, where I have had to cut down the clematis due to wilt (hopefully it will grow again next year). Sarpo potatoes behind the arch, onions starting to ripen and beetroot in the small green pot. The birds have been having a good time pulling the strulch off where the peas were removed yesterday.

                        Its officially Autumn

                        Near the hotbin

The Mountain Magic tomatoes are doing really well, and the Ferline have some huge tomatoes on - so much so that one of them has bent its stem right over and has therefore wilted. The Legend at the front has gone yellow and looks really sick. This variety has proved very hard to grow. On the seat the other side of the back door you can just see the new strawberry planter.

                        Near the apple tree

Some nice apples, although some have fallen off due to codling moth. The Sungold tomatoes are currently giving me a blight scare, although the small black patches on the stems have not got much bigger - yet. Runner beans are Firestorm, growing in a 30 litre bucket and going great guns.

                        From under the archway

Cucumber has just about filled the growhouse but only about 4 cucumbers so far. The fuchsia berry plants are very pretty, but the fruit keeps falling off, which is not the idea. Plenty of fruit just starting to ripen on the tomatoes. The very straggly potato plant on the raised bed was the last bucket of Desiree which I harvested shortly after taking this picture. It yielded 2.7kg potatoes - not bad considering that wall faces due north.

The dark area behind the fruit cage

Mostly strawberries and brassicas under nets now. Parsnips on the raised bed on the right and the herbs (mint, chives and garlic chives) are surviving well in the dark.

                        The veg garden

All change here with the onions and peas having been harvested. Winter salads and cabbage seedlings under the low net, buckets of late peas and Charlotte potatoes and the saladgrow of leeks has been moved here for more light. The experimental Flyaway carrots being grown without a net in the quadgrow are doing well so far, but I have yet to pull any up to check for carrot fly.

                        • Things are certainly starting to feel a bit tired and I have a bit of that going on. Also the squash have taken over the bottom and I slightly want it to be Oct. just so I can see what is actually there and have access to everything again

Then some of the various squash as it is that hopeful exciting bit of things to come.

Chicago warted hubbard (TY to the grape that sent it in to the VSP) (I had hoped to save seed but there has been a lack of girly flowers )
