Heads Up For Some Colder Weather

Over the last couple of days the weather models have increasingly begun to agree that we are heading for colder weather next week. Frost and possibly some snow is likely and anything that is not fully hardy will need protecting. Some plants which have strated to grow or flower early may need protecting even if they are usually hardy.

The plus side is that (hopefully) we may actually see something of the sun. Possibly.

This is the path outside my back door this morning - I am not in the flood area, but everything is so saturated that these 3 paving slabs with gravel and plants in between have been under water since Boxing Day. At least colder weather will hopefully mean less rain, but the whole lot will probably turn into a skating rink!



The 2 submerged plants are a gentian (nearer) and lemon thyme. No idea if they will survive this experience.

I'd seen the 2 week forecast yesterday on here... Meteociel - Modle Numrique ECMWF CEP

and i seen it was going to get really cold from next week. To be honest I'm quite pleased as I';m just so sick of this horrible rainy windy weather we seem to have been having since god knows. It just seems to have been going on for months.

Oooh I hope so! My cousins in Oslo are on -12 at the moment. Could do with some decent cold to kill off the slugs that are still sauntering around like it's September.

Agree about the slugs. Can't use nematodes at this time of year (potentially too cold) and if I did they would probably be washed away.

remember past years, just when they forecast spring down will come the sleet, rain, and snow to make it feel like a normal "spring", killing off the early buds so i will not be pruning until the last minute. since the start of November we have been in the dark, but the sun came out on Tuesday for nearly an hour, followed by our normal weather, rain and gales, but no different to the usual dreariness ...but a Spanish broom is in full flower.....

just a timely update, its now snowing outside and getting heavy......... all we had to do was wait.... an inch of snow and the sky tv system is kaput....what a surprise....
