  • Sweetcorn question.

This will be my first year of growing Sweetcorn (Variety - Incredible). I've been watching a few youtube video's to get the idea of it.

This video suggests sowing 2 seeds together and planting them out in a block.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pq2P5-Uje0

Anyone else do it this way or do most of you just sow 1 seed per cell and then plant them in blocks?

I just do one seed per loo roll middle....but then, I've not had much success the last couple of years so I might try two per tube this year.
    Thanks for the suggestion!

I chit them on damp kitchen paper for a few days until the little root starts to come out, then I plant them one per module.

I think I'll try the two per module idea this year, as I'm really short on space - thanks for the link!

I sow one seed per pot then plant out in a block. I was wondering how big his cobs were,so I found this video. I wonderered if the cobs would be smaller as they're closer together,it's quite hard to make out in the video though. Their spacing was about 1 or 2 inches, recommendations say about 15"? I space them about 12" the leaves grow all over each other as it is,I can't imagine my plants, being the size they were, that close together?
If you forward to 2.20mins the mans with the same plants at harvest time.

I put one seed per pot - I use those plastic drinking cups from the £shop.
Plant out in two rows - small border like bed. Space about a foot apart
I make sure half the contents of the dalek is dug in a month before planting out. Growmore is used as I go along.
Don't forget to shake the tassels to assist pollination

I start them off - 1 per pot, using those larger paper based pots you get out of £land.

I never have any problems with germination, and then just plant the pot straight in ground - that's normally when the problems start.
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)

Why, what happens once they go in the ground?

Now that I have read the back of the packet if the ones I bought, it does say sow 2 seeds together...

Sweet Corn Incredible F1 Seeds from Mr Fothergill's Seeds and Plants

I may have to do as I'm told...

Edit: although it does say thin to stronger seedling.

It's a ploy to get you to sow twice as many seeds as you need. Sweetcorn germinates easily so no need at all, just sow a few extra but not 100%!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yeah, I'll sow what I need plus a few extras. Thanks everyone.

This is what I think too.

"Attraction" is an F1 variety so the seedlings will be very even in strength. Thinning to the strongest only makes sense for open-pollinated varieties (in my opinion).
