Wonky veg

Just seen on facebook that asda is going to be trialling out wonky veg....

They got some in the 1 near me,but getting down there on a weekend is chaos,it's the taste and freshness that count,not prim and proper,after all,when they prepped and served ,who knows what shape they were.

I read the blurb - only 20 boxes available in a few shops - shame on Asda.

At least they can say that they tried but it is the shoppers fault for not buying the stuff.

If I threw away everything that was truly 'wonky' we would have nothing left.

They only trialling it out at the moment Lumpy. Maybe if it's a success then they might put it in over shops across the UK. And I am thinking there would be more boxes of it.

I defo would buy it if I came to asda near me.

Maybe peeps could inundate their local branches with emails asking when they would be available?...that might encourage more to trial them?
I'd certainly buy them at this time of the year when my own stock has vastly reduced .

perhaps if some had little hats on,like the bottle had for charity or oragami hats,it might encourage some kids to want a box,and eat veg,they could have a drop off bin for peeps to put the hand knits in,may sound daft,but you never know,

Nothing wonky about that veg. Like has been said, if anyone wants to see Wonky come to my garden when i pull my spuds and carrots up. Now that's wonky.

I think this probably results from the points made in this program BBC One - Hugh's War on Waste which were truly horrifying. Basically if any fruit or veg is not exactly the right size and shape it is thrown away. Good to see that someone is at least trying to do something about it even if it is only a very very small trial.

As has already been said that veg isn't wonky and is perfectly beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. It's a marketing ploy simple as. I've not bought veggies for years and didn't buy from the supermarket for about 5 years before that so am probably out of touch but how did this happen?!?

I suppose it does go to show that our definition of 'wonky' and their definition of 'wonky' are two completely different things - maybe if they spoke to growers, large and small they could learn.

I think its great they are doing this - I would definitely buy them. I love the 'lucky dip' element to them too

BUT reading the article, and from watching Hugh's programme, I still get the impression that the supermarkets don't really want us buying them! I don't like that these boxes are 'hidden' - they should be loud and proud!
