Carrots don't need a lot of feed so you could use your 2nd hand compost. I regularly plant carrots in old potato compost, which I sieve first (removes any lumps which could cause carrots to fork). Add a handful of blood fish and bone fertilizer to keep them happy.

I cleared last years carrot bed today, thought there was only a couple left but turns out there were pounds! Had some in a stir fry for tea
