Can't find the original post as lots of chats this morning! But I think scarlett asked what am I attempting to grow. Selection pack from fothergill seeds; hungarian wax which looks popular with you lot, cherry red, jalepnos and frigillittos (probably spelt wrong)

It all depends on your location.

I've seen people say that they use "flower buckets" to grow chillies in. Does this mean what florists use, with water in, to display their stock? If so, presumably you have to drill drainage holes in the bottom.

Scarlet, could you be thinking of Basket of Fire rather than Ring of Fire? Ring of Fire is one I was considering for next year. It's a cayenne and not particularly compact as far as I can tell. Had to LOL at the name.

I doubt scarlet's on about basket of fire. Scarlet is a chilli god in these parts of the vine . Chilli's will behave differently in different set ups / conditions.
A lot of the flower buckets we get come from supermarkets. Next time you're in one and someone is stocking up flowers or sorting them out. Go be cheeky and ask if they have any going spare ( it worked for me )

Originally posted by Small pumpkin View PostYes decapitation is the same as pinching out the grow tips. It's a bit brutal though, which is why I renamed it ( and because I'm a bit nutsI dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
...utterly nutterly

If you fancy trying lemon drop and/or a black naga that has possibly crossed with a trinidad scorpion send me a PM.
Can't find and thing similar to frigillittos?Last edited by Scarlet; 15-11-2016, 08:00 PM.

I thought you already had lights?
My primary motivation for overwintering has always been due to the rather lacklustre harvest from plants sown, grown, and cropped within their first year in entirely natural conditions, particularly if the summer has been poor (with 2nd year+ specimens the amount of sun hours in the day is less of an issue). Having kept up a constant cycle of biennial plants for the last 7 years has worked out well, having largely perfected that process, but up to 20 months from seed is a long time to wait to sample a decent, full sized pod from a new strain.
With the pinching of flowers, I tend not to do that myself. Quite a few of the initial flourish ultimately drop off by themselves. But when fruiting is underway, I'll take off all undersized or distorted looking fruits, and randomly take off a few others here and there, leaving the rest to develop and ripen in situ. This seems to promote a steady flowering over a period of weeks.
Cheers for the info, Tim. I shall look into it
