  • I'm in toddler tantrum mode. I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!

I just keep worrying they are too wet / too cold / too hot, basically that I'm doing something wrong. Everyone else's seem to be germinating quickly.

    • Well stop having a tantrum! Santa won't visit you if you carry on

I'm sure you're not doing anything wrong. Just calm down. In fact go get stuck into the Christmas sherry and let nature worry about the seeds

      • I'm actually in the middle of bottling and labelling my chilli vodka / fruit gin etc. which I am giving as Christmas presents. Need to carry out a bit of sampling for quality control purposes, of course. That'll help.

They are in damp (but not sopping wet) kitchen towel paper, which is placed in a small lidded tub, which is placed on a Garland 7 propagator, which is on the windowsill of a heated room (curtains never closed) and I have an electric radiator nearby timed to come on when the central heating is off overnight.

The chinenses are also in kitchen roll tissue, but in sandwich bags not in a tub, and on the propagator base.

                    • Nigels outside green chilli Chilli Pepper Vegetable Seeds to buy in the UK from The Real Seed Catalogue

Having had quite good success with cayenne outside for powder in the past, im hoping this baby will take care of my dried, flaked and powder ( along with the couple of ring of fire) for next season.
I intend growing it in 20 litre pots at the lottie and if it does the job itll free up a lot of space in the gh for a few more oddballs and also seed saveable as on its todd.

On it or in it? Windowsills can be very cold and draughty at night.

Why are you doing it that way and not in modules/soil/in the prop?

                        • thanks for the link JA ,they are big size pots to put chillis in i normally see them in smaller ones but as im starting mine early (jan this year) im going to try and grow some in 25 liter pots in my greebhouse this year and im hoping the larger pots will help stop them from drying out to much ,altho i am abit scared as to what size the plants will get too ,type in "picking 2,407 chillies of a dorset narga plant" into you tube and meet nigel the chilli plant down at seaspring seeds ,he`s a monster ,cheers

Ive got my super 7 propagator for xmas too and bought myself some different chillies to try in the new year. I tried to grow chillies last year but it was a big failure. No propagator or anything. This year will be my first proper year of growing them and I can't wait.

                            • Dont get carried away with too many superhots Scoot, they can be hard work for little return in the first year.
Chuck a couple of staples in there ( ring of fire, cayanne etc, lemmondrop is awesome and pretty easy)
                              as success breeds success

                              • I dont have any super hots. I think the hottest is scotch bonnet.

The others are, ring of fire, cayenne long slim red, Hungarian hot wax, numex twilight and jalapeno. Couple of peppers too.
