  • No success with Fatalii, zero germination, which has been my main disappointment. Could be old seeds, but I've read elsewhere that they can be difficult to germinate. Anyone ever had success with them?

If anyone reading has any spare Fataili seeds, let me know and I'll be happy to offer you a choice of seeds in return
Fatalii are one of my staples. I don't recall any particular problems with germination, though they do take longer than say Jalapeno. I do them every year now, either overwintered or from seed.
For overwintering consistency I'd have them in my top 3 Very good in that regard.

Chris, I might have spares in my seed box, I'll have a look later and stick 'em in the post if I find any

Jeez, had to change computers just to edit lol, stoop tablet
Yes, I think they are leggy plants so a bit of pinching out would do it some good.

Look at Ms T post #494 for a good pinching out/pruning guide. It looks drastic but Captain has had some good growth already on similar pruning methods.

      • I got my advice from a Facebook group..

Pinched out the top and then removed every leaf except the top three..

Even in the day or two since I last posted they've come on..

        Not trimmed or pinched.

        Trimmed and pinched.

          • Cptn, does this pinching/trimming method work well for all chilli varieties..? And is it worth me doing it with some of my 'leggier' plants (hab orange) ??

            • I would do it to 'leggier' plants because it makes them stronger.

              • Just to be brutally honest..
                ..I have no idea! Lol

I've only grown chillies for a couple of years, last year I grew Orange habenero, they were too hot for me.
I didn't do anything to the plants.. just let nature take its course!

This year I read up and watched what others were doing and was totally intrigued!
It's all an experiment, I've never done anything like the mutilation I have inflicted in these poor Hungarian hot wax!

                I'm absolutely loving the tests!

If you have enough plNts to perhaps risk one..give it a go!

No joy on the pure seeds I'm afraid. I've not needed to grow Fatalii from scratch this year.
Best I can offer are seeds from currently frozen Fatalii fruits, however I highly doubt they'll be true, and I don't know what they would've crossed with.

If you don't find an alternative supplier for right now, and are happy to wait a few more months, I'll be isolating seed on my existing 3 year old plant and then submitting a load of true seed to Scarlet to distribute in the chilli seed circle.....

                          • This sweet bell pepper of mine just seems to have stopped growing. It's putting flowers on now but there doesn't seem to be any growth tip to carry it on growing if you know what I mean.

I cut the top off ages ago to encourage it to bush out.

                            • It looks really yellow Scoot? Where are you keeping it? They need constant warmth. I think I can still see a flower bud? If it is, take it off to let the plant grow

                              • Looks very yellow as Scarlet says....Has it been overwatered maybe?
