  • Does anyone know what "Caribbean mix" are? Are they named varieties all together in a packet of just... I don't know "seeds that fell on the floor of the seed packing factory and all got shoved together and sold"? Some seem to be doing really really well and others seem to be doing a bit.. "Meh"

A bunch of them and one apricot flavour chillie. (I sowed a bunch more of these too, but only one came up)

The only other time I grew a chillie it was from a packet of habaneros and turned out like a fat mild birds eye chillie so I don't think that's right, and it only made one of the tiny fruits before I gave up too so... I don't know..

    Chillies are hard
Forgive me for my pages of text.

    • I don't think they are hard, you just need a a little patience they are slow growing plants but if you look after them they could fruits for two, maybe three years.

What varieties did they say was in the carribean mix? You may need to wait until they fruit to be able to tell them apart.
Take some photos so so we can see how you are doing. Some of my plants are small.

      • Update on my Satans Kiss
15th April, looking a little pale and yellow a week after potting on.

Today, looking much greener after a worm feed and they seem to have put on some growth. The yellow one in the smaller pot more so than the other. Now I only have two of these...do I dare pinch out and deleaf one, the biggest?

            • Looking good scarlett,, mine have improved colourwise but its getting really tough aphid hunting now, seem to be spending half my day checking my chillis and peppers.
also been pondering weather or not to pinch out , read up on them last night ( so little info) and apparently they can get up to 4 feet tall. also have flowers onone of mine now so think ill keep that one nd trim the other two

It went Yellow after i potted it into a bigger pot. It seems to be going back to green now though.
I've got it on window sills. I rotate it with the sun. East facing int he morning, west facing on a night.

I'll take that flower bud off but it's the growth tips that concern me, there just doesn't seem to be one.

As i said in reply to Scarlet, it only went yellow after i potted it on and is actually going back to green now.

You've pinched the top out? If so, just wait, if you remove the flower it will put all its energy into sending out some new growth.

after i pinched the top out it all started to bush out perfectly, now it just seems to have stopped and is just putting flower buds on.

                      • This year I am growing -
                        Jalapenos for pickling
Tam Jalapenos (Mild Jalapeno) for pickling
Santa fe Grande (Mild going to try stuffing with Cheese)
Black Hungarian (Cos I like the name)
Hot Portugal (meant to be a fruity Cayenne type)
                        Cayenne -

Most were sown very end of Jan with another small batch end of Feb – most are still in small pots

Got far too many especially the Tam Jalapeno which had an excellent rate of germination around 30 plus plants in total - I will grow on about 12 – 16 and give the rest away to friends and family -. Most of mine are in 7cm pots at the moment as I find they fruit better if potted up slowly.

They went outside about 4-5 weeks ago and were fleeced up every night during the cold snap - I need to pot on soon but need to give some away so I have room.

It's stopped growing because it's trying to set fruit. Take all the flowers off.

                            • My Lemondrop about to be potted on. Flowers forming but it's looking a bit lanky , a foot tall, should I pinch it out do you think ?
I'd personally leave the plant as it is, and just provide some support when you pot it on.
It doesn't look especially leggy to me, just taller than it's buddies.

It's a naturally sprawling Aji, so to have encouraged a main stem that is both sturdy and straight at this relatively early stage in it's life is good, and should enable strong, balanced growth in subsequent years too (hint hint )

My habanero plants - Monster x2, Chocolate x1 - and which I sensibly kept indoors the last few weeks, were nonetheless covered in poxy greenfly again.
So remembering a comment from awhile back about how to rid the plants of said pest without resorting to spraying, I duly rinsed them under the shower this morning. And it worked a lot better than I expected. The leaves are a bit bedraggled but they'll recover. Greenfly totally eradicated from stems, leaves, and flower buds! So many thanks to the genius who thought to do that...

                              • It was this but from wilko. Pepper (Hot) Caribbean Blend|Johnsons Seeds Vegetable Seeds

The picture on the packet is the same and the description is almost identical, but the wilko ones were 60p so..

I'll take/post pics later, maybe tomorrow, as I need to pot a bunch of stuff up so it will be a good chance to get pics with sunlight.
