  • Aarrgghh - panicking now..!!

You know how we keep checking/looking at growth/progress, well the two rather big Ancho that I have on my bedroom windowsill - one has a chilli developing and I can see others - BUT there is an infestation of whitefly on them only just noticed ...... Should I take them outside and spray them with water to get them all off? Just too many to squash ......
Should I leave them outside then or what...??? Help!!!!!

Just squishing some onto white kitchen roll - they look green ...
Leaving a sticky residue on leaves/flowers/emerging chillis .......

    • Greenfly update on Ancho - took 30 minutes to squish/wipe them off (well all the ones I could see anyway...)

      Are they now doomed ..............................

I've left them sitting outside on the garden bench - dare not put 'em in GH - don't want to spread anything in there ..................... How do these greenfly find indoor plants anyway.......???

Just hope they're not too cold or blown over by this brisk wind we have here at mo ......

      Can you tell I'm devastated.....???

It'll be interesting to see what people say this is as I have noticed this on 1 or 2 of my peppers.

I would spray them with soapy water ,then wipe down, then spray them with water again.
Is there somewhere you put it under cover and put a plastic bag over it at night?

Ms-T, do you think now it looks like I've squished most of the little bu****s off, it's safe to bring them back indoors ......
Are you saying to do the spray thing first, then plastic bag them over night - does that kill the greenfly

                  • No the plastic bag them over night is just to keep it warm. Then look tomorrow again ,if all clear take back indoors.if not spray again.

                      • Susie, why have you kept them in the house - did you run out of greenhouse space? Ms T has given you good advice, you just need to keep ontop of it now, be vigilant for a few days/weeks as they are difficult to get rid of.

SP, that filius blue is stunning..wish I'd got them now but I have enough to look after
I cant really see the problem with Trev, I'm on an iPad and when I enlarge the photo it gets too blurred for me to see. Is it just a couple of little holes? Or is the flower dropping off it's really frustrating that I can't make it out.
I'll ask admin about it but I think they already know there is a problem with uploading photos from iPhone/iPad that are running newer versions.

It's some small holes and small brown patches at the bottom of the leaves on or very close to the central vain and only on very new growth. There is no evidence of Simon being affected ( Dorset naga ) living next door but one to Trevor!

                          • SP, you've got me in stitches , you've got a Trevor and a Simon ... Got any girls?

The small holes and brown patches may not be related... Have you got good air flow in your poly? Are the brown patches mouldy/furry/ or dry and crispy?

                            • If I am not happy with something like that, I would pinch the leaf off and see if it happens again.

My big pumpkins will have girls names if / when they set

Not mouldy, not furry, not dry or crispy. I was wondering if he was in to much of a draft, as he is next to the door and it dose have big gaps either side and it has been quite breezy but not cold. So I've not been closing the outside curtain.
