That's got me thinking about whether it's necessary to isolate C.pubs for seed saving.

C.pubs are the most distinct of the five cultivated species and are 'reproductively isolated' from the other four cultivated species. That's the easy bit.

So it's unlikely there is much risk of the C. pub crosses being able to cross with your other chilli plants. The Pretty in Purples and and Waxes are both C. annuum, so they could potentially cross more easily with each other, but not with C.pubs.

What I'm not sure about is whether the reproductive barrier is physical, or whether cross pollination is still possible, in which case you could get normal pods forming, but containing some non-viable hybrid seeds.

          • Looks absolutely wicked, MB.....!!!!!

I'd forgotten that I'd taken 16 plants into work (to sell @£1 each - for Brain Tumour charity..) they were 8 X Ancho 4 X pretty purple and 4 X hab Orange ....

That was the end of May ..... when I returned to work after being off, there were 4 unsold, sickly looking plants, (hab Orange) neglected to the point of bringing me to tears...!!!!
I took them home, unfortunately two had reached the point of no return, were despatched to compost bin - the other two I potted on, fed and placed in GH - three weeks on they're still small, but the leaves have 'greened' up and are looking perky!!

I've got 6 sweet pepper plants on the go too, which are taking a lot longer than the chillis to produce any flowers .....

I put a list up earlier in the thread that shows how easily the varieties cross. Ive been saving manzano seeds for years, the different varieties within that strain will cross with each other but if you are just growing one variety eg. Red manzano, it is safe to grow with all your other chilli varieties.
But this may very well change as you lot are growing a cross.

This is how I do it.
                        1. If you have taken photos on an iPad/iPhone -Crop photo on camera roll on ipad/iPhone first or the photo will appear on its side. Just a small slice from the side and bottom or top.
                        2. On GYO click "go advanced"
                        3. click "paperclip" icon
                        4. Click "add files"
                        5. Click "choose files" on the drop down box.
                        6. Chose photo from your camera roll
                        7. Click "upload".
In the bottom LH corner your photo wiil appear.
                        8. On RH side of this click "done" and your photo will be inserted within your post where you last positioned your cursor.
