They're small, which is why we originally chose that variety, the one I have overwintered is about 10 inches tall, nice bushy jobs with plenty small flowers (another reason for growing it, it's actually a nice houseplant), then smallish chillies with a bit of a kick

I think we need a " chilli reviews -likes and dislikes" thread

          • Very nice! I've never been able to get a cayenne to overwinter. Is it a standard red?

**Just researched cayenne peppers; seems Joe's Long / Ring Of Fire / Tokyo Hot / Super F1 along with a few others are all cayenne hybrids, which I wasn't aware of. I've grown these 4 to two years on previous occasions so top line not entirely accurate, but certainly the standard red and it's golden variant I've never had success with.

            4 years is impressive

              • Looks really strong and healthy Ms T! I've never bothered trying with a cayenne but that main stem looks super thick...would love to see more photos as the season goes on. It's really impressive.

                        • My chill list this year:

                          Aji Hot
                          Aji Wrecking Ball
                          Ancho
                          Bahamian Goat
                          Beaver Dam
                          Big Jim
                          Goat Horn
                          Hungarian hot wax
                          Machu Pichu
                          Padron
                          Portugal
                          Purple Jalapeno
Queen Laurie (so far no luck with germination on this one, wondering if they're dud seeds)
                          Trinidad Perfume

Also overwinted Aji Amarillo, Cheiro Roxa, Fish and Rocoto Yellow. The Aji and Rocoto are three year old plants which overwintered in my unheated potting shed protected by fleece on cold nights - this was an experiment as I have limited space for overwintering chillies in the house. These two seem to have come through ok, although a couple of annum varieties I tried the same treatment with didn't make it.

This lot hasn't germinated. So I'm now officially giving up on them. They wouldn't come to much this late in the year now anyway. Will try again next year.

My favourite. I have one from last year which I overwintered and recently pruned back. Have 8 new ones on the go now so hope to overwinter a few more this year.
