This is probably the most popular chilli thread, and I am hoping to overwinter these..

Do you think these Hungarian hot wax need potting up or pinching out yet? Thanks.
I think a general rule of thumb is that you don't need to pot up in size until the plant is twice the height of the pot and/or roots are growing throught the holes in the bottom of the pot.

In terms of overwintering, Hungarian Hot Wax is one of the earliest and fastest growing varieties, so it's not an obvious choice for overwintering, although good luck if that's what you end up doing.

If I pinch out They are usually about 8/10inches. I'd leave yours for a couple more weeks maybe?
Brilliant video in this link. Worth 2mins

And same as Chris, I don't pot on until you can see some good roots circling the bottom of the pot.

Thanks, I sowed on January 28th.. they are the plants I posted in post #34 on this thread!
I'm quite pleased with the progress and will leave them be for another few weeks, would you generally keep them in quite small pots?
I usually put into Morrison's buckets but have read that they prefer to be a bit pot bound?
..I'll watch that clip in a bit and that will probably help me! Lol

I get severely reprimanded if I post photos on F@cebook or wherever, if there is the slightest hint of a mess in the background..
..whilst I love my partner dearly and have survived the last 12 years with her.. the risk of her catching me taking a photo of a slightly messy windowsill just wasn't worth the risk!

Same as my numex twighlight. They are literally 2cm high. I've even put a freezer bag over the whole pot to try and retain some heat. It seems to have got to that size and stopped as it's been like that for about 7 weeks now.

You need to invest in a piece of white card

All my chillies eventually get moved to black flower buckets.

                            • I pinched out the top of one of my lemon drops (although literally just the top, not half the plant!) before seeing this, its not an annum, so it will be interesting to compare against the non-pinched one. I'll let you know!

Oh well, that's good to know. I thought it was just mine.

First year of growing Chilli's so I wasn't sure what was going on.
