hi all, i am now starting to get some flowers growing on my chillis how often should i feed them ?
Depends on what you're feeding them with I think. The usual advice with potash heavy soluble feeds eg. Tomorite, and some of the Chempak range, is weekly. When the plants are heavily fruiting you could increase feeding to twice a week. Or you could try feeding at every watering but reduce the feed to about 25% concentration. Products like Chilli Focus which are quite specific I'd follow the guidance on the label.
Also be aware of your compost and whether you've added any slow release granular stuff to the mix and adjust your weekly feeding accordingly ie. too much feed is damaging. (If you've added homemade compost or manure that wouldn't make a difference).
Now and again it's good not to feed at all one week and just flush the compost through with water. Also every 4-6 weeks sprinkle a bit of Epsom Salts over the compost surface around each plant and lightly dig in, 1/3 - 1/2 a teaspoon on first year plants is about right. I go with a teaspoon on my older 2 yr+ specimens. Helps them maintain a healthy dark green.
Yes, hopefully MsT..!
I'm going to buy some Epsom salts - I've just looked at a couple of videos on YouTube - it looks to be very good stuff! Also on toms as well as chilli plants! It's worth a try ........
How're yours doing..??

As far as I understand, Epsom Salts are just a source of Magnesium, which will already be present in any decent tomato feed. Unless you have reason to think your plants might be magnesium deficient, I'm not sure what the benefits might be.
There are also risks, as too much Magnesium could interfere with the uptake of Calcium, which could increase the chances of blossom-end rot, especially in tomatoes.
You can get it in Boots, although it's sold primarily as a 'relief for occasional constipation'

It ensures the plants get some good colour. Any pale/yellow leaves green up. Try it for yourself and compare results.
What are you growing Chris? Any photos?
