I very rarely get aphids indoors. This year I overwintered about 6 plants and I didn't get any. I think it's luck! Though Thelma suggests covering the soil with foil to stop some. I only ever water from below....very rarely, so plants are kept very, very dry. Any sign of a creepy andthe plants get watered under the tap. Be ruthless, if one plant starts to get covered - bin it to save the others.
It's all a bit hit and miss to be honest. Worth a shot in your conservatory though.
Scarlet, if you remember my two Anchos that I'd kept indoors were crawling with greenfly (Bill and Ben!) - and I had to squish and spray them with soapy water to get rid ...... after a couple of nights quarantine they joined their cousins in GH ~ where they are doing very well, plenty of massive fruits on.

So any I overwinter I'm going to feel a little nervous about them getting infested.....
I shall try covering compost with foil, and as you say water very sparingly from below ...
Just got to find a windowsill for them all .....!

If, that is IF they fruit (were flowering before I left them, but were suffering a little from sun scorch......) I will save seed and could send you some to try ..... I'll have to keep you posted on that one .....
          Thank you very much.

It's usually nice young fresh green growth they like...so if it isn't too warm where you are keeping them they should "hibernate" and not push out soft sappy growth.i was lucky last winter and had none. Just keep your fingers crossed..and be warned, they aren't a pretty sight on the windowsil, dropping leaves, bare branches and looking very sad for themselves!

              • Haha scarlet..!!!! Might not look a pretty sight, but if they give you a head start on the growing season, it's got to be worth the mess...!!!

                • Just had a thought.......... Would they be ok do you think to overwinter in my 'utility' room. It's attached to the house and garage - so no heating in there, but there is a full window, with plenty of space for chilli plants. It'd be warmer (I think!!!) than the unheated GH........???

                      • I've picked another one to eat, and four more on the plant that are definitely pure, which set before all my other peppers flowered.. might eat the last one in the kitchen and check that for seeds..

                            • So is it a case of picking them too early or does it just happen where there are no seeds?!

                              • I think it's just some peppers don't have many or any seeds.. I'm pretty sure leaving them longer won't produce more seeds, but keeping the fruit in the plant and ripening longer would help the seed be more viable!?

There probably is a scientific reason why some fruit font have seed...Anyone!?
