Which one gets the best chilli results in your opinion? I'm guessing there's very little difference.

( yes I'm getting a greenhouse, just planning the best thing to grow in it. Thought I'd start with my favourite)
Just my greenhouses..would imagine there isn't much difference tho
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Can't say about polytunnels - I have a GH and it takes care of my chillis perfectly...!

        • I pulled a few this morning. I'm not putting this forward for the "plate of chilie's" competition as they aren't that interesting - there's just rather a lot of them. Hab's Cayene's, prairie fire and a few more types.

I had a similar revelation to Scarlet - I stuck a small Trepadeira Werner in a flower bucket with a good sprinkling of BFB and the plant is now enormous and loaded with flowers. It dwarfs the others. I am going to attempt to overwinter it, but it will need pruning to come in. Am definitely going to do this again next year as well.

I am going to grow fewer varieties next year - but I hope to have my second greenhouse up and running by Spring, which should be perfect for them. I'm already blessed with growlights and a heated prop, but a second set of growlights wouldn't go amiss...

One question though - are variegated varieties inherently unstable? I am growing 2 variegated chillies, Fish and Rob Smith's Trial 'b' (ie I haven't the foggiest what it is). Both have a plant or two which is very variegated, and others with little or no variegation. Does any plant care help develop the variegation or are you just stuck with what you get in terms of genetics?

                    • I'd like to know that ^^^^
This one looks good but there's no mention of how long it keeps

If you make sauces that last for ages they seem to require loads of sugar...so I may just make one or two small bottles and freeze the chillies to use in batches.

                      • I tried to take some photos today....I'm finding it difficult to get a good shot. They are so crowded in you can't get a good look at the plant. Here's the best ones..and dome of them I forgot to crop so they have loaded as landscapes. It doesn't matter, just rest your head on your shoulder

                            • I have had some problems with overcrowding, ive snapped a few branches off some plants. I'm not doing great on seed saving. Lots of my bagged flowers have dropped off. Though have managed the tricolour, manzano doesn't cross with anything, ive got some of the paprika. I did find one black naga pod in my bag but Im worried it may have been pollinated perhaps before I bagged it, just because all the other dropped off ...I shouldn't keep doubting it but I couldn't believe it when I saw it in the bag....

                              Still more time yet though

                              • I like the look of the paprika.
I haven't even got flowers on my black naga! I've got small buds but that's it. When's the summer going to start ? I'd be happy with 2 consecutive days of sunshine. Just to help my little chilli's.
