Chillies - what are you growing/overwintering?

I am keeping in the patio window, east facing. I don't think putting it in my grow house with my tomatoes would help it. The doors are always open and if the sun isn't out its not that warm in there for chilli's anyway. I think it'd be better of indoors.

I've been shaking the plant to try and pollinate them and also been using a cotton stick and going around each flower individually once its fully open. I hadn't done this for a while though as it wasnt working but I just done it again tonight.

I'll post a picture up tomorrow.

you are not alone scoot. My spaghetti chilli is dropping flowers like there is no tomorrow. I'm putting it down to temperature ( they have been fluctuating like made all season ). Spaghetti is in the tunnel and about 3ft tall 2ft wide a mass of flowers. Gets hand pollinated, there are lots of bees & hover flies in their. And still it spits flowers off! It's set 3 chilli's but no sign of them ripening. I'm going to try the same variety next year, I think it will be a stunner if the conditions are right for it.

Well ive been away for over a week in my campervan down Cornwall. Went to the Eden Project and came back a Banana Chilie plant and some more seeds for next year lol. Then came hone and the chillies have been going mental at home. My reaper plants have doubled in hight too..

Healthy looking to me Scoot..I think keep pollinating it and if you get some warm days pop it outside in your tunnel...

I'll keep pollinating yeah. It's getting quite annoying now though with the amount of flowers it has on yet not one single one has pollinated and developed into a chilli. It's getting to that point soon as well where even if they did pollinate there probably wouldn't be enough time for them to ripen.

Plenty of time yet to ripen Scoot especially if you are keeping it inside..Whilst I know it must be frustrating, don't panic I have some plants like Hot Scotch and Habanero and Manzano only showing signs of fruiting now...

I agree with Trip...you WILL get a crop this year scoot, it looks great.... Just grab a flower and move it around as many flowers as possible..singing to it might help too

OK, I'll try the flower thing. An oldish flower that's seen better days or a new one that's just opened?

i use a soft paint brush.

my friend was looking at the Aci Sivel on the windowsill and said to me do i need to put a paint brush in the pot to get it as big as yours..yes she meant it... she is lovly lady..

My pretty in purple wouldn't set fruit so as well as the paintbrush trick I withheld water and only have him a tiny bit when he started to wilt..seemed to help!

I often use my finger, that is the lazy option but I think using a flower is also an easy option. Take a freshly opened one they fit perfect so you know that you've moved that pollen around.

Not had any trouble with any of my chilli plants being pollinated ~ they've all been crammed into GH together ~ would that have helped ..... ?
Also keep GH doors open for as long as poss when warm enough... Or is it just some types more difficult to pollinate .....?

Flower drop can be overwatering....over feeding.......lack of insects...overcrowding....too warm ...or airflow....myself I have a couple of hugely healthy plants absolutely laden with flowers and none setting thus far......I'm some will eventually....they are at th e door end of a poly and despite my cutting back this year have gone loopy and are still possibly overcrowded
