    • My Rondo carrots which I sowed on 6th April have germinated. This is the third container of carrots and all are still growing well. So far, so good.

      • Newbie joining the challenge! I bought some fleece and canes today, i am hoping to plant up a tomato sack with my kids on Wednesday and have my arsenal ready to protect against the evil carrot flies! Do i need to cover them straight away or let them come up first?

        • Brumbird, when you sow them you can put a sheet of glass, plastic or perspex to give a little extra heat to hrlp the germination. When they germinate you can cover thrm with fleece or fine mesh.

              • I sowed a second bucket of cosmic purple yesterday - well technically its the second, but there was still nothing in the first so I re-sowed in the same bucket. Watch them all come through now

                • Lots of tiny carrot seedings have appeared - have the first lot finally germinated or have the second lot germinated in 2 days?! who knows - just happy to have germination.

Will get the next bucket sown tomorrow - I've finally decided on 5 varieties - so will be interesting to compare!

                    • Bucket number 5, Purple Haze H sown today. Very old seed though...2013.

The other four buckets still happily growing away.

                      • Only have one bucket on the go...seedlings popped their heads up and that's been it, no further movement to be seen!

Very unlikely that carrots will germinate in 2 days so my guess is this is the first lot.

                            • Sowed Chantenay red (I think - there were two opened inner sleeves in the outer seed packet, but one lot don't look like carrot seed at all ), and as there is only one Parmex carrot seedling, re-sowed the pot. Poor germination could just be the result of seed being 3 years old, but this was the first pot I sowed so maybe they were grazed off.

                              Endless wonder.

                              • Not part of the challenge as they were sown last year, but harvested these beauties from my pot of overwintered Marion, sown on 20th July.
