At first I thought ''Noooo I just like things to be nicely rounded and organised and 1st March sounds better than 27th or whatever of February'' *I know...I'm strange* but then I realised what you meant

Should I be starting leeks that day too?

Sowed a large pot of carrots this evening.
      Variety, Flyaway.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I've never grown carrots as I've always been put off by the whole carrot fly thing. However, I have a packet of Chantenay Royal, Autumn King 2 and a heritage Beta 111. The Chantenay looks short so probably good in pots and says to sow from March to May where as Autumn King can be sewn till July. I'll have to research the heritage one as there's no info on the pack. Also these seeds are quite old so may not give any results though I have done well with out of date seeds in the past.

I like to try and grow something new now and again so can I join in too? Won't be a sewing a week though.

What does everyone reckon is the minimum depth for a pot of carrots?

I don't use MPC but today went out and bought a large bag, just for this carrot challenge, since they need light and fluffy and my garden soil is, well, not. Also got some sulphate of potash as I read that makes the carrots taste sweeter. Can anyone confirm that? And how much per pot?

I shall be sowing Parmex tomorrow - start small and work up, I thought...

                Endless wonder.

I reckon about a foot, although you can get away with less if you are growing the small round varieties.

Just need to grab some appropriate buckets.
I find the cheapest buckets are from the likes of b & q (builders) and pour boiling water on the upturned bases before drilling drainage holes as the warmth will help prevent the plastic cracking, and you can move them easily as they each have a handle, 99p last year and any of the b & m,range, poundstretcher type shops sell them..

Sowed my first bucket today, 'Touchan' from realseeds via a seedswap.
If I leave them 20 weeks they'll be ready 18th of July but realseeds reckon they're very quick so I'm hoping to eat them a bit earlier than that.
