Hi All

The new growing n sowing season upon us!

Been doing a little research, these "Jiffy 7" coir/peat pellet Propagators?

Anyone use'd, any good?

Ordered 4 today but got phone all saying they had mixed stock n didn't have any!

They just look so tidy n organised! Any feed back much appreciated!

I tried those 'just add water - watch them expand and then sow your seeds' pots last year. Many of the seeds did not germinate and those that did ended up very leggy as I had to water them so often to keep them from going crispy.

It did not go well but I'm a numpty so...................

I've never got on with those pellets either - does look neat and tidy though. Perfect for you Deano

Tried them last year....want bother to use this year, constantly drying out and very poor germination rate

I've used them years ago,but they're more expensive than buying a bag of compost & reusing cell trays & pots. When you look at the content of them,you could buy a 50L block of coir for about £2 at h0me bargains.

Why don't you buy a few of the pellets and see what you think?
You're a lot more meticulous than I am so you may be OK with them.

Sorry i do not get on with the pellets either but the ones i have left are very good for courgettes, cucumbers etc, just for getting them started and then their roots grow out very quickly and then into their position.

Unless you've had disease then I think that pot washing is ALWAYS a waste of time. Just knock the soil out and reuse . Re the pellet things, I found them a big of a pain but not as bad as peat pots (which my dad used to love for his runners). I find watering a lot easier in normal pots or even newspaper ones a lot easier.

I tried them out last year and had reasonable germination, but they were slow compared to other seedlings after potting on.

Wow......I must be really lucky, I've been using them for the past 5 years and had excellent results. I only use them for tomatoes, chillies, cucumbers etc but have had pretty much 95% come true. I get them on internet sites for a reasonable cost 200 for around £12 -£15. Not had too much of a problem with drying out. I just put a little warm water into the base every 3-4 days. I pot on as soon as I can see roots starting to penetrate the outer lining.
