Onion leaves

Hi does anyone know if onion leaves grow from the centre or the outside of the plant
The reason I ask is I've got some onions from seed under lights but I'm not sure if there trying to bolt or this is normal?

Normally from the centre....where are yours shooting from?

The older leaves grow from the outside and the new ones from the inside. A flower spike will grow from the centre. When they die down each leaf forms one layer of the onion bulb.

There growing from the centre, I sowed them late December and are just starting to get there 5th/6th leaf does this sound normal? Thanks for replies btw
