Did "Femspot" last year, both inside and outside with brilliant results!

But have been advised by one of the "Old-timer's" For a perfect indoor Cuc! "Anbar"

Not as long a fruit, Approx 12 inches long, but hang in numerous clumps! And as fresh as a daisy! His words not mine!

Who am I to argue with wisdom and experience!

Yeah indoor, and female only, so gunna give these a pop this year!

Pilth! Ya right! Not on ya Todd! "Home Grown" never come to good keeping! But home grown and fresh just "Pants' the Supermarket stuff!

You can just cut half the fruit off the plant, leave the other half hanging on there
And the cut end just calluses over? Does the remaining half carry on growing / swelling?

      Cheers, Jane. Nice tip

By coincidence on Sunday I sowed Anbar and Socrates and the Anbar have already germinated
Never tried either of them before but I had the seeds in my Wilk0 lucky dip bags last year

Yes, it'd carries on growing. My Mum does it although I think she covers the end with a piece of foil. The lunchbox varieties are worth a go though if you can't a whole cucumber in a couple of day.

I haven't tried it but it could get bitter if left on there to long,it would still be getting cucurbitacin from the plant.

Giving "Mini Munch" a bash this year! As well as "Cornichon de Paris" a gherkin! With a view to "Pickling"

Bought a jar of these from "Morribogs" last year and fell in love with their flavour!

I'm another fan of femspot. I couldn't find any seeds when buying this year so I'm trying paska. I have no idea what it's like. It's got a lot to live up to after femspot.

I've grown Tamra (from Realseeds) the last 2 years. They're great!

In the end I went for Carmen F1 after folks recommended it

I also bought green fingers f1

It says in the green fingers packet that the plants do grow a small number of male flowers but to leave on as these polinate the female flowers, are these likely to cause a problem with the carmen variety?

Hi SarrissUK sorry just seen your post. I bought mine from jungle seeds. I planted 6 all 6 have germinated and now have flowers on. Don't know if they are Mae or female but will have a proper look tomorrow. The are only about 8 inches high. Is it too early to let them flower?

Nearly all the seeds I sowed have committed suicide However, all the outdoor cukes sown are still going strong. Same treatment, conditions - just not so temperamental I guess.

they will do what they will do Bal! I'd leave the flowers on. Mine haven't moved since they came up, but it's been cold this weekend, really cold.

Oh no VC, has it been as cold with you as it has been here? The northern winds have been forcing me back inside all weekend

Not really cold here, Sarriss, but indoor cucumbers never seem to have much get up and go. I may sow a few more as a challenge

I'm growing Socrates as read they produce dozens of mini cucumbers.
Expensive. Couldn't find them at Wilko so had to pay £4.60 for 5 seeds. But I really wanted them.
I actually got 6 seeds in pack but one didn't germinate. (Begrudged!!) all very healthy. I'm planning to put two on the lottie grown up support but in big pots not ground so I can really boost the soil. It's an experiment. Anyone else tried this? Thought a better chance to protect from slugs..
                                .
