  • Mystery seedling?

I sowed a tray of Tagetes 'Star Fire' on 22nd March (from seed saved from half a packet I still had last year) and they soon started to germinate BUT.....is it me or are these some sort of brassica rather than French Marigolds?

It was definitely Frenchie seed I sowed and the compost was fresh out of the bag. In the photo the tray behind has another variety of French Marigold called Chapion Mix and these are definitely the type of seedlings I remember.

Help! Any ideas....this has got me baffled!

How exciting Marigolds that look (to me at least) just like radish - don't tell T&M.

Other than that nope.......nada...............nowt of an idea.

Radish!!! The one thing I grew last year which I really didn't like and decided to give a miss this year. If it wasn't for the fact that Neil cannot bear to touch soil (yet is ok with oil and grease from cars? Men are strange!) I would have thought it was a tray he'd sown as a joke and switched labels

I'll just have to wait and see what they turn in to

It does look a lot like radish, well it will be a nice additional to your salad or maybe someone else´s

I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

I've deleted the duplicate thread - to keep all the answers together!
Seedlings of Herb Robert look like brassicas - they keep coming up in the GH and I have to leave them until they have some true leaves to be sure, to be sure

Gillykat when you knocked some broccoli seeds over & had to re-sow them, did you knock them into your marigold tray quite skillfully? They grow well together too

No, the seeds of broccoli, cabbage and kale I knocked over fell on the floor of the greenhouse so it's really got me stumped

I'll just have to let them grow on until we can work out what they are

We all have one! Mine is Sow Thistle!!! It drove me spare last year and I'm determined to zap it the second it shows it's face this year!

My kale, broccoli and cabbage seeds are starting to germinate so once they're a bit bigger (and clear of the top of the compost) I'll compare them with my mystery seedlings
