could anyone tell me when the best stage is for cutting comfry leaves to make a liquid feed, I noted today that it has started to grow, so should I cut the leaves while young or let them grow and harvest when mature?

First year let them get to the point of flowering, following year you will get 3 - 4 harvests from them as they grow like mad. I have a bed of 10 plantsLast edited by Cadalot; 11-04-2016, 10:03 PM.

Make sure you get Bocking 14 which produces sterile seed or it'll grow every where.
Mine are getting bigger every time I look. I'll let it get about 2 foot before I cut it.
I think I'll try the pop bottle method to make a concentrated feed.
Cadalot - how much do you get off your 10 plants? I've got about the same number which I planted last year so didn't harvest. Wondering if they would produce enough leaves to pack into one of those bokashi bins with the tap on the bottom (18 liters) without water to make it easier to draw off the liquid.

I cut it usually just before the first flowering and get about 3 cuts throughout the season after that. I stuff the leaves into 2 litre milk cartons, top up with water and leave for a good 4 weeks before using, diluted of course. I used only comfrey feed for my tomatoes last year. I also made some comfrey tea bags for the barrel with it and still had enough to cut up and apply as a mulch and feed the Daleks.
Looked at your blog - your plot looks well nice. Are those daffs in the comfrey bed just for place holding or are they a permanent feature from year to year?
