I sow in newspaper pots that way the whole thing gets planted without any root disturbance.

I sow beetroot in modules, mostly so I get it going in the greenhouse, and them get gapless row. (I saw modules, I actually use root trainers for beetroot.

Here's a picture (should have taken it from the other end, where all the seed germinated!)

Bren - do you find that the paper pots go mouldy much or are they generally OK? Hi have one of those paper pot making thingies but had a bad experience once with everything going mouldy and all the seedlings died! Just wondering if its worth trying it again as I'm starting most things in modules this year after losing almost everything to slugs when direct sowing last year!
If it ain't broke...fix it til it is!

Hi there everyone! I've been reading the forum for a while =D
I've been having the same message re:admin access however, and whenever I try to edit my profile, avatar or write something, I'm not "authorised" =S
This is the first message I've been allowed to type - luckily!

Hi Kevin, You need to post a few more messages before you can edit your profile - though that seems to be one of your problems! Keep trying to post as I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to do that - Welcome to the forum

I've not had a problem with them going mouldy (fingers crossed) since I started watering from below so Id give them another go if I was you.

In a mad moment many years ago (well 10) I bought 4000 7cm TEKU pots for £80. I've used and washed them ever since and am still to get to the bottom of the box. I was one of the best buys I've ever made. I use them for everything.

I always start some beetroot in paper pots to get some early beetroot, then I sow the seeds direct in the ground for a later crop. I love beetroot.

I love my beetroot, tomato, garlic and chilli chutney too.

I've sown in modules this year. Last year the slugs ate every single one that germinated in the ground

As a nation though, can we really afford to carry on keeping all this Beet in cells? , isnt it time we maybe thought about leaving them stew or maybe sort out the pickle they find themselves in ?.
