Another little tip,i have done in the past when using loo roll tubes is,as has been said about the wick effect owing to the roll being above ground is,if the compost has sunken down, you can tear a bit of the wet roll of,or snip in aprox 3 places and bend it over,so it will be below the ground, hope you can understand what i mean.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Quick Google about root disturbance is 'inconclusive'. Maybe it's an old wives tale. I'll keep trying to avoid disturbance as I've had good crops last few years. If you've had no worries with multiple moves then keep with it. Perhaps we could do some sort of experiment see what's what

I always fold the loo rolls in half twice. This makes them square. They then fit very nicely into a seed tray. Then fill them up with a jam funnel or if you haven't got one cut the bottom of a plastic one. ( got this tip from a post on this forum. Works brilliantly fold along the lengthLast edited by Bal; 14-04-2016, 09:15 PM.Dogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

I use the top third of a plastic milk bottle as a funnel.
Its free,
The perfect size for loo roll filling
and comes with its own handle.
The rest of the milk bottle...sides cut into strips for perfect plant labels...bottom is a 'gravel tray' to stop plant pots marking the windowsills.
