Unwins grow sure seeds, what are they coated with?

Hi, the coating on these seeds must be bad surely? I can't seem to find any any information in there website so this tells me they are not giving the customer full disclosure? Before I learned more about growing veg I just bought any old seeds, now I buy heirloom or organic seeds, save seeds and grow with no chemical fertiliser, but being as thrifty as I am I don't want to throw old seeds away if I can help it, but if they turn out to be laden with nasties then I will. What does everyone think about these seeds?

I think I wouldn't use the seeds if they were mine,I found this link that says
"Gro-Sure is a range of 100 seeds claimed to offer "the finest growing performance, germination, vigour, disease- and pest-resistance, easy sowing and guaranteed results".

So I looked to see what the technology is & found this
"Sedaxane is a new syngenta molecule and the first syngenta fungicide developed specifically as a seed treatment."
"Sedaxane belongs to the chemical class of pyrazole-carboximides"

So I wondered about Sedaxane in tests it shows "The majority of the radioactivity was recovered in excreta"

I've only had a quick look there's a lot to be read,I suppose you won't be eating the seed but will whatever get passed into the food?

Unwins site says

Fungicide coatings to protect vegetables prone to dampening off disease in early germination.
All smaller seeds colour coated: easier to see and handle.....

It wouldn't bother me to grow veg from them, cos a very small amount is coating the seed - not on the bit I'm going to eat; but if the idea bothers you - then don't use them.

I used to grow spinach Tirza which is an Unwins variety, but the last packet I bought was covered with this purple coating of fungicide. I used them because I particularly like Tirza, but I won't be buying any more until I can find some without the coating

thanks so much for all the info, i will just be binning them, i think i love gardening so much because i am constantly learning so much, and of course fellow gardeners are so lovely
