OH has cut the bottom few inches off (now have smaller pots for leaf and spring onions etc) and the tops are being used as edging in our front garden. Each one will have either a perennial flower or strawberry in them.

They do make nice border edging.

I cut the bottom inch off to give me a pot tray for watering and a bottomless pot which I stand on the soil surface and fill with MPC to grow cucumbers and gherkins, this helps keep the neck of the plants dry and helps stop rotting off. They can also be used on top of a slashed grow bag to increase soil for tomatoes. We grow nearly all our herbs in MFBs as they can be left on the patio just outside the kitchen door, which is the best place for herbs as it makes you more likely to use them than having to schlep down the far end of the garden or drive to the allotment.

If you have a Lidl nearby, you can get them there for free. Not only that but they have several different depths, ideal for smaller peppers . beets etc

These things do have a habit of increasing in numbers. I started off with 10 30 litre buckets and I now have 43.

Finding nearly 1300 litres of compost to fill them with is ... errm ... challenging.

I already love mine - I'm already using them for carrots and raspberries (the latter is temporary until we move) and will be using them for all my chillies and peppers and alot of my 'overflow' cordon toms and also rocket.

                    Great bargain!
