  • Outdoor Girl/Latah questions.

    Afternoon all,

Growing the above toms for the first time, intend growing one of each in a 25 litre pot and one of each in a MFB , any reasons why either pot wouldnt suit ?
Also, despite loads of reading, still havent been able to conclude whether their bush or cordon lol, so many different views as per

    thanks in advance

    Jack

Latah is very much a bush. I grew them in MFB. They grow about 3ft tall, will still need some support, mine did anyway. I haven't grown outdoor girl but I think that's a cordon...will have a look. I'm growing both of those.

Hmm, I think outdoor girl may be "semi-determinate" some Roma toms are like this...labelling all over the place! Ive read "it grows taller than the average bush and needs staking and no pinching out". Maverick grew them (he loved 'em ) and ive just found a photo he posted and it looks like he treated them as a cordon. So not sure

Fingers crossed he sees this thread and gives a response.

I treat them both as determinate.

This link says it's often grown as a bush but is best grown as a vine.

Each time I have grown outdoor girl, it has got no higher than around 3ft.

Yes, mine too. I grew them last year. Latah (IMO) definately a bush.

Ive never grown outdoor girl, maverick treated them as a cordon. though ive read a few sites and they all are a bit undecided ...some say best as a bush others a cordon. I'm not keen on many bush plants, they don't use the height in the GH. More toms destined for the bucket treatment...bush types go over quick.

The problem with bush varieties is that the fruit sets at the same time..........I can't for the life of me remember how OG fruited.

I grew outdoor girl as a Cordon, It doesnt grow super tall but it doesnt need to.

Each truss is multi branching, you get about 50 toms per truss, I recommend thinning the fruit out slightly because there is so many toms the end ones never really mature.

The plant really can only support 3 trusses but thats over 100 fruits easy.

                            Latah is definately a bush
