Hi I've read that runner beans and French beans won't cross, has anyone tried growing them very close together? I want to grow runners on one side of a cane support and French beans in the other so they will be a couple of feet apart, do you think this will be OK?

Cross pollination is only an issue if you want to save seeds, as the plant you get next year maybe a cross. If you want the beans don't worry and mix away. We grow mixed beans adjacent to each other, this year a wigwam of climbing Frenchies, a wigwam of climbing borlottis and a couple of runners between

I always grow them close together, they don't cross. The runners however do often cross with other runners grown nearby.Last edited by Alison; 30-04-2016, 08:09 PM.
