Garlic question

Just wondering, the garlic that I planted out earlier (yes, I know, Spring planting garlic, there's one born every minute, but was impatient ...!)
Can it be left in the ground over Autumn/winter until next summer before being pulled, or is that really a no-no?? Thanks

It can but it might rot off or split again into teeny tiny unuseable cloves.

I'm a bit befuddled...when did you plant this garlic?
It's been a long, cold spring this year. You might yet find that its ready to harvest in June/July after all!

Well, muddled.
I have a large deep, grow bag that I planted (oops very late, forgot about them - bought them last September ..) which I planted in January and kept in unheated GH until about March. They're sitting nicely outside now and have green tops about 5" tall ... (Valledalo something or other ..)

The others (Solent Wight 'spring') I planted firstly into individual pots on 29th March then popped them into prepared bed last Saturday 23rd April (along with onion sets). They're all looking healthy ...

You may still be alright but it is a bit late,leave them in until the leaves start to yellow then have a look.if they look ok eat them ,but they will probably not have split into cloves as it's been warm since planting and they will look like small onions.
If you want you can still eat them or replant in september I tend to put my seed garlic back in the ground within a couple of weeks of harvest ,as soon as I have the space,I now only grow elephant garlic though.

I will let them grow on, as you suggest and see how they progress.
So, I can split them and re-plant in Autumn then (if I don't eat them all..!!)
