Carrots no show yet

The carrots are brand new seeds. A bit off topic but I have also sown a second batch of T@M cumumelon as the first failed to germinate after weeks. This second lot hasn't shown up for the party either.

Do you have a heated propagator? I find that's the most reliable way to germinate many seeds - like tomatoes, cucumbers, squashes etc.

My first pot of carrots this year took 42 days to germinate, Marb

I've since read that carrot seeds like to be sprinkled with water every day until they germinate, not soaked, just a quick sprinkle with a fine rose. Don't know how true that is, but my seeds did come up the day after a shower of rain.....

Well the good news is (yes, I have good news ;-) they have popped up here and there but oddly enough not exactly in the same spot I sowed them. I did 16 in a square foot but they seem to have moved. As I like to keep things neat I have (very very carefully) lifted them with a thin stick and re-planted. Even the small seedlings have a very long root already. Perhaps worms moving the seed as I noticed one of two popping up just now ?

Pleased to hear they are showing marb, as for the worm work ...who knows, carrots must be in their way

slugs had all mine, I will resow as soon as slug pellets have had a chance to work, after last winter, or the lack of, it was not really a big surprise at the slug numbers, how I wish I still had my chooks, they would have gone through them like a dose of salts...I hate using pellets but as spring has only just come and I cannot wait all summer..

I had 2 containers planted out with 2 different varieties of carrots, nothing happened well about 3, so I dug them over, cheated and bought some tiny plugs from GC, doing brilliantly! ( cheating I know)
